The Maharashtra government will provide Rs 2,000 each as a gift to anganwadi workers and helpers serving under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme this Diwali, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has said. Tatkare said the government has sanctioned Rs 40.61 crore for the initiative, and a government resolution to this effect has been issued on Thursday. "Anganwadi workers and helpers play a crucial role in the care, nutrition and overall development of women and children. To acknowledge their dedicated service and add joy to the festive season, the state government has sanctioned this Bhau Beej gift. In a significant judgment that will benefit lakhs of anganwadi workers and helpers across the country, the Gujarat High Court has directed the state and Union governments to treat them at par with regularly selected permanent employees holding civil posts. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Saturday announced that the government would increase the monthly salary and retirement benefits of anganwadi workers. He said the remuneration of anganwadi workers would be increased to Rs 14,000 per month for those with over 10 years of experience and to Rs 12,500 for those with upto 10 years' experience and mini-anganwadi workers. Months ahead of Assembly polls, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the monthly honorarium of anganwadi workers will be raised by Rs 3,000 to Rs 13,000. The Delhi government has adopted April 30 as the annual uniform retirement date for all Anganwadi workers and helpers working in various centres across the national capital, according to an official order. The order issued last week stated that the Ministry of Women and Child Development has issued guidelines for all states and union territories for the adoption of a uniform retirement date for all Anganwadi workers and helpers (AWWs/AWHs). The move "will not only help in assessing the requirement of AWWs and AWHs in advance on account of falling vacant posts but will also enable department to recruit new AWWs and AWHs in a proper manner instead of doing the same throughout the year in a disaggregate manner, it read.
