Anupam Kher

A prominent Bollywood actor born in a Hindu Kashmiri Pandit family, Anupam Kher is an alumnus of the National School of drama. He has previously held the positions of the chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (2017-18) and chairman of the Censor Board of India (2003-04). He stepped down as the FTII chief citing work commitments. He has also received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards from the government of India for his contribution to cinema and fine arts.
Anupam Kher’s wife, Kirron Anupam Kher contested Lok Sabha elections from the Chandigarh seat on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket and won. As an MP with connections to the film industry, she had promised to build a Film City in Chandigarh.
Anupam Kher is a vocal about political subjects and was often seen campaigning actively for his wife in 2014. Many saw this as a precursor to his own political foray, but the actor has maintained a distance from that arena.
Kher recently starred in the movie The Accidental Prime Minister, which stirred up a huge debate on social media, with the Congress labelling it the BJP's propaganda against the grand old party.
