Pakistan shocks India with first T20 win over arch-rivals since 2016

Indian batters bungled badly in a straightforward chase as Pakistan recorded their first win over the arch-rivals in six years with a 13-run victory in the Women's Asia Cup, here on Friday. India, the most formidable team in Asia by some distance, batted poorly to be all out for 124 in 19.4 overs after Pakistan posted a modest 137 for six. Pakistan scripted a remarkable turnaround less than 24 hours after their shock loss over Thailand. At 65 for five, India were in all sorts of trouble with majority of the batters including star player Smriti Mandhana (17 off 19) throwing their wickets away. Prior this game, India enjoyed a 10-2 record over Pakistan whose previous win over the arch-rivals came way back in the 2016 T20 World Cup in New Delhi. Pooja Vastrakar got herself run out after attempting a run off a misfield while Dayalan Hemalatha (20 off 22) let her team down after not capitalising on a start. Questions were raised over Harmanpreet Kaur's fitness as she came into bat at

Slow batting during middle overs is an issue: BCCI's Asia Cup Review

India's batting in the middle overs between overs 7 to 15 is the main area of concern is what emerged out of BCCI's Asia Cup Review meeting ahead of the all-important ICC T20 World Cup starting October 16. India's first match of the showpiece event is in Melbourne against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23. On Monday, the BCCI announced the team for the marquee event along with the six T20I matches against Australia and South Africa, starting September 20. However, apart from the squad selection, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah along with the national selection committee did discuss the underwhelming performance of the national team during the continental championship. "Yes, the Asia Cup performance was discussed. But obviously, more than problems, the focus is on solutions and what are the things that needs to be improved during the T20 World Cup," a senior BCCI official privy to developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. While there were a few issues,

Space given by you made me feel relaxed during the game, Kohli tells Rohit

Virat Kohli is all praise for skipper Rohit Sharma for the kind of "communication" he has had with him which has helped him stay relaxed and return to his "original template". Kohli finally got his 71st international hundred in the inconsequential final Super 4 Asia Cup game against Afghanistan and the BCCI.TV had the current and former captain engaged in some serious chat and occasional banter after the game. "We will learn from these Super 4 games (Pakistan and Sri Lanka) as to where we have gone wrong. There was clear communication from the management. The space that you gave me made me feel relaxed. So when I came back (after break), I was excited about what I could contribute to team," Kohli told his "interviewer" Rohit. Getting back to his 'Old Template' ------------------------------------- There are many ways to skin a cat and Kohli told his skipper that he realised that he should stick to his tried and tested "template" where six hitting isn't always a priority.
