Top BJP leaders meet to finalise candidates for Tripura assembly polls

Top leaders of the BJP including party chief J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and others have met here to finalise candidates for the upcoming Tripura assembly elections. The Thursday meeting was also attended by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP's state incharge Mahesh Sharma and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Deb. Earlier in the day, BJP's Tripura unit core group members met at party leader and northeast incharge Sambit Patra's residence. The BJP is likely to finalise its candidates for the Tripura assembly elections on Friday in its central election committee meeting. The 60-member Tripura assembly will go to polls on February 16. The last date for filling nominations is January 30. The counting of votes will be taken up on March 2. In 2018, the BJP formed the government for the first time in Tripura, ending the 20-year run of the CPI(M).

Nagaland cabinet to appeal to ENPO to reconsider demand for separate state

The Nagaland cabinet decided to appeal to the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) to reconsider their demand for a separate state and not to boycott the assembly elections. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet on Tuesday, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu. "While extending our solidarity to the ENPO people, the state cabinet decided to appeal to them to reconsider their demand in the greater interest of the Naga people," he said. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Nagaland on Friday, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the state after January 10, and only after that something is likely to be decided on the demand, the minister said. Campaigning ends for Gujarat Assembly polls' second phase; voting on Dec 5

The high-voltage campaigning for the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections ended at 5 pm on Saturday. As many as 833 candidates are in the fray across 93 constituencies which will go to polls on December 5. Votes will be counted on December 8. Prominent candidates in the second phase include Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel from Ghatlodia, Patidar leader Hardik Patel from Viramgam and OBC leader Alpesh Thakor from Gandhinagar South. Assembly bypolls: Counting of votes on seven seats in six states underway

Counting of votes is underway on Sunday in the by-election to seven assembly constituencies in six states including former chief minister Bhajan Lal's family bastion Admapur in Haryana. EC team visits Gujarat ahead of polls, reviews election preparedness

The Election Commission of India informed that a team of officers visited Ahmedabad from September 16-18 to take stock of election preparedness in the state ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
