BSP supremo Mayawati demands immediate caste survey in Uttar Pradesh

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday demanded the state government start conducting the caste survey right away, saying though some parties are against it, this is the only way to justice for the OBCs. "The news of the caste census data conducted by the Bihar government being made public is in the news today and intense discussions are going on on it. Some parties are definitely uncomfortable with this, but for BSP this is the first step in the long struggle for the constitutional rights of OBCs," Mayawati said in her post on X. She said BSP is happy that the country's politics is taking a new turn in favour of the neglected 'Bahujan Samaj', as a consequence of which even the most extreme "anti-caste" and "anti-Mandal" sects have become worried for their future. The BSP leader said although the UP government should now start a caste census or survey immediately in line with sentiment of the public, "the right solution will be found only when the central government conducts

Lok Sabha Speaker refers complaints on Ali-Bidhuri matter to committee

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has referred MPs' complaints on the issue involving BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri's use of objectionable words against BSP's Danish Ali to the Privileges Committee, sources said on Thursday. While Ali and several other opposition MPs, including Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and DMK's Kanimozhi, demanded action against Bidhuri, several BJP parliamentarians like Nishikant Dubey said the BSP member "incited" the South Delhi MP when he speaking in the House and urged the Speaker to look into this aspect as well. Sources said the Chair has sent all these complaints to the Privileges Committee headed by BJP MP Sunil Kumar Singh. In a post on X, Dubey thanked the Speaker for referring the matter to the committee. "It was possible because the BJP has a majority in Lok Sabha," he said, as he cited several previous incidents to assert that no committee was formed to probe these issues and nor was anyone punished. In this context, Dubey alleged that the ...

No question of joining hands NDA or INDIA bloc: BSP supremo Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday said all parties are eager for an alliance with the BSP but there is "no question" of her party joining hands with either the BJP-led NDA or the opposition's INDIA alliance. She made the comments in a series of posts on microblogging site X, a day ahead of the INDIA alliance's meeting in Mumbai during which the opposition leaders are expected to chalk out a joint campaign strategy to take on the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Mayawati claimed that both the NDA and the INDIA blocs consist of parties most of which have "anti-poor, casteist, communal, pro-rich and capitalist policies" against which the BSP's struggle continues. "That is why the question of contesting elections in alliance with them does not arise. Hence I appeal to the media: No fake news please," she said. Although everyone is eager to ally with the BSP, the opposition accuses it of collusion with the BJP if it doesn't ally with them and if it does then "w
