Gold prices rose by Rs 165 to Rs 32,508 per 10 gram in futures trade Friday as speculators raised their bets, taking positive cues from the global markets. In the domestic market, the prices were up on increase in demand from local jewellers because of the ongoing wedding season. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in February was trading higher by Rs 165, or 0.51 per cent, at Rs 32,508 per 10 gram in a business turnover of 13,435 lots. Similarly, gold for delivery in April was trading up by Rs 169, or 0.52 per cent, at Rs 32,600 per 10 gram. Globally, gold was trading 1.77 per cent higher at USD 1,301 an ounce in Singapore.
Key benchmarks were trading near day's low in afternoon trade. At 13:16 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 305.49 points or 0.85% at 35,720.05. The Nifty 50 index was down 98.25 points or 0.91% at 10,682.30. Selling in ICICI Bank, Infosys, Reliance Industries and HDFC put pressure on bourses. The Sensex was trading below 36,000 mark while the Nifty was trading below 10,700 mark.
Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises bounced back Monday, surging 20 per cent, after it denied links with a company being probed by the SFIO for suspicious demonetisation deposits. The stock recovered its lost ground after Friday's massive fall and soared 14.99 per cent to Rs 367.25 on BSE. At NSE, shares of the company surged 19.97 per cent to Rs 382. The Western Railway has provided segways, the two-wheeled, self-balancing and battery-powered electric vehicles, to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel deployed at major railway stations in Mumbai. The vehicle, introduced on the Republic Day, will help the RPF in keeping an eye on every nook and corner of the railway stations, specially on long platforms, Western Railway's Chief PRO Ravinder Bhakar said on Monday. "This is the first-of-its-kind initiative by the Indian Railways. We have got six segways and five more are expected in the next few weeks," he said. These segways will be used by RPF personnel at Churchgate, Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus, Andheri and Borivali stations, he added. Currently, segways are used by Marine Drive police in South Mumbai to patrol on the promenade and the officials need sufficient training to operate these self-balancing vehicles.
