Iran to cap petrol sales to curb smuggling

Iran is reintroducing fuel cards that will cap petrol purchases in a bid to combat rampant smuggling, state media reported on Tuesday. Smuggling has boomed in recent months as the rial has plummeted against the dollar in the face of the reimposition of crippling US sanctions following Washington's withdrawal from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between major powers and Tehran. The Islamic republic has some of the most heavily subsidised petrol in the world, with a pump price of around USD 0.08 per litre (less than two US cents per gallon). Low fuel prices have led to high consumption, with Iran's 80 million population buying an average of 90 million litres (20 million gallons) per day, according to state news agency IRNA. They have also fuelled very high levels of smuggling -- estimated at around 10 to 20 million litres (2.2 million - 4.5 million gallons) per day, IRNA said. YES Bank shares slump over 6% after independent director's resignation

Shares of YES Bank Tuesday slumped over 6 per cent after independent director Rentala Chandrashekhar put in his papers marking the third resignation from the company's board. The stock plunged 6.10 per cent to close at Rs 192.55 on BSE. During the day, it tumbled 6.73 per cent to Rs 191.25. At NSE, shares of the company tanked 6 per cent to end at Rs 192.50. The stock was the worst hit among the blue chips on both the key indices during the day. The company's market valuation dropped Rs 2,849.63 crore to Rs 44,501.37 crore on BSE. In terms of equity volume, 69.21 lakh shares of the company were traded on BSE and over 7 crore shares changed hands at NSE during the day. Cargill appoints Piyush Patnaik as new MD of edible oil biz in India

US food major Cargill Tuesday announced appointment of Piyush Patnaik as managing director of its edible oils business in India. Cargill India sells edible oils under various brands including NatureFresh and Gemini. It markets olive oil under 'Leonardo' brand. "Patnaik will be taking over from Deoki Muchhal who has left the organisation after 15 years," Cargill said in a statement.
