Telecom operator Bharti Airtel Monday slashed ISD call rates to Bangladesh and Nepal by up to 75 per cent for pre-paid customers without any need for a special recharge to cut the tariff. "Calls to Bangladesh will now be charged at only Rs 2.99 per minute (versus Rs 12 per minute earlier) representing a reduction of 75 per cent. Calls to Nepal will now be charged at Rs 7.99 per minute (versus Rs 13 earlier) representing a reduction of approximately 40 per cent," Airtel said in a statement. The company claimed that the new ISD call charges, which are currently available to Airtel prepaid mobile users, are the most affordable in the industry and eliminate the need for buying additional ISD packs to make calls to Bangladesh and Nepal. To promote innovation in FinTech space, the central bank will issue guidelines for regulatory sandbox in the next two months, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said Monday. A regulatory sandbox is a framework set up by a regulator that allows FinTech startups to conduct live experiments in a controlled environment under supervision. "A Regulatory Sandbox' would benefit FinTech companies by way of reduced time to launch innovative products at a lower cost. Going forward, the Reserve Bank will set up a regulatory sandbox, for which guidelines will be issued in the next two months," he said at an event organised by NITI Aayog here. The country's crude steel output grew over 4 per cent to 8.91 million tonne (MT) in February as compared with the year-ago month, according to official data. The domestic crude steel production had stood at 8.54 MT during February 2018, according to a report by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC), which comes under the Ministry of Steel. "Crude steel production stood at 8.914 MT in February 2019, up by 4.3 per cent over February 2018, and was down by 2.9 per cent over January 2019," the report said. State-run Steel Authority of India Ltd, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd along with private firms Tata Steel Ltd, Essar Steel, JSW Steel, and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd produced 5.40 MT and the remaining 3.50 MT came from the other producers, it added. Taking weak cues from overseas markets, zinc prices fell by 0.18 per cent to Rs 196.70 per kg in futures market Monday after speculators cut down their holdings. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in current month drifted down by 35 paise, or 0.18 per cent to Rs 196.70 per kg in business turnover of 861 lots. Analysts said cutting down of positions by traders on the back of a weak trend overseas on economic slowdown concerns, mainly attributed the fall in zinc prices at futures trade. Globally, at the London Metal Exchange (LME) zinc for delivery in three-month slid 0.4 per cent.
Crude oil futures fell by 0.22 per cent to Rs 4,066 per barrel Monday as speculators reduced positions amid a weakening trend overseas. At Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in April traded Rs 9, or 0.22 per cent, lower at Rs 4,066 per barrel in 7,452 lots. The trading sentiment dampened in futures trade after oil prices eased in Asian trade as concerns of a sharp economic slowdown outweighed supply disruption from OPEC's production cutbacks and US sanctions on Iran and Venezuela,. analysts said. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was down 63 cents, or 1.1 per cent, to USD 58.42, while Brent crude fell 51 cents, or 0.8 per cent, to USD 66.52 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
