IRCTC Rail Connect, Chhattisgarh's 'Khanij online' among National e-Governance Award winners

Railway's ticket booking mobile application and the Chhattisgarh government's 'Khanij online' are among 14 such IT projects that have been chosen for this year's National e-Governance Awards, officials said Tuesday. The IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) Rail Connect mobile application was launched in January 2017 to facilitate booking of train tickets in a faster and easier way and it was later re-designed to enhance its overall booking capacity, according to the citation of the award. It provides a platform to citizens for easy and quick booking of tickets, along with the option to use new payment modes like BHIM (Bharat Interface For Money), it said. The Railways collected a revenue of over Rs 5,800 crore in 2018-19 (till December) through the App. The application has been chosen for the special jury award for excellence in government process re-engineering for digital transformation. American businesses in China see gloomy year ahead

US companies in China forecast a gloomy year ahead, with many worrying about a deterioration in bilateral trade ties and nearly a quarter delaying investments, a business survey showed Tuesday. The survey of 314 US businesses by the American Chamber of Commerce in China provided a full accounting of challenges American business face after Beijing and Washington exchanged tit-for-tat tariffs on more than $300 billion in two-way trade. The report was released two days after US President Donald Trump said he would delay a planned further hike in tariffs on Chinese goods this week after he and Beijing both hailed "substantial progress" in trade negotiations. "Certainly our members are hopeful that the uncertainty and the loss and the delays in business that have resulted from the trade negotiations and trade frictions will turn out to have been worthwhile in the end," said Tim Stratford, chairman of the chamber. Lot of headway being made in IL&FS matter, says corp affairs secy

The first phase of resolution for problems faced by IL&FS group is expected to be completed in the next few months, as a lot of headway is being made in addressing the issues, a senior official said Tuesday. On Monday, the National Company Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) said that no bank or financial institution can declare the accounts of debt-ridden IL&FS and group companies as non-performing assets without its permission. "I think a lot of headway is being made and... in next few months the first phase of resolution should be completed," Corporate Affairs Secretary Injeti Srinivas said. He was responding to a query about the progress being made with respect to IL&FS case. Speaking on the sidelines of an event organised by industry body CII, he emphasised that pro-active steps have been taken regarding the IL&FS matter.

Services restored on Noida-Greater Noida Metro

Metro services on the Noida-Greater Noida route resumed Tuesday morning after they were hit by power issues on Monday night, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) said. There was a breakdown on the Aqua Line around 9 pm on Monday due to electricity failure in overhead equipment between Sector 144 and Pari Chowk Metro station, resulting in a halt in services, a senior official said. "The problem was solved around 11.30 pm and normal services resumed this morning," NMRC Executive Director P D Upadhyay said. A team of officials of the NMRC and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) were at the spot to resolve the issue, Upadhyay said. Built for Rs 5,503 crore, the Aqua Line that connects Noida and Greater, covering 29.7 km via 21 stations between the twin-cities in Gautam Buddh Nagar, was inaugurated on January 25 amid much fanfare. On normal weekdays, the Metro service begins at 6 am and continues till 10 pm.

Zinc futures rise 0.31% on spot demand

Zinc futures Tuesday edged 0.31 per cent higher to Rs 194.30 per kg as speculators created positions, triggered by a firm trend in the domestic spot markets on industrial demand. At the Multi commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in current month move dup by 60 paise, of 0.31 per cent, to Rs 194.30 per kg in a business turnover of 1,252 lots. Marketmen said building up of fresh positions by participants following improved demand in the domestic spot market, influenced zinc prices in futures trade.

Rise in demand lifts nickel futures by 0.23%

Nickel prices were up by 0.23 per cent to Rs 916.10 per kg in futures market Tuesday as speculators raised bets, driven by pick up in demand from consuming industries in the spot market. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, nickel for delivery in February rose Rs 2.10, or 0.23 per cent, to Rs 916.10 per kg in business turnover of 2,178 lots. Market analysts attributed the rise in nickel futures to fresh positions built up by participants due to upsurge in demand from alloy-makers in the physical market.
