Delhi excise department targets eateries selling liquor without licence

The Delhi government has intensified action against hotels, clubs and restaurants serving liquor without necessary excise licenses, officials said on Saturday. Raids were conducted at 40 premises and over two dozen FIRs have been registered in the last few months, they said. An Excise department officer said that between January-April this year, the enforcement teams raided 40 eateries in various parts of the city that were selling liquor without excise license. The department also registered 24 FIRs in this regard. The city has around 1,000 hotels, clubs and restaurants that serve liquor without proper licenses, he said. A significant number of unlicensed premises are operating across the city without obtaining proper licenses. The raids were conducted across Delhi, including in West Delhi and North West areas, and 24 restaurants were found serving liquor without liquor license, officials said. Excise dept seizes 1,037 liquor bottles, ramps up raids before New Year

Ahead of New Year celebrations, the Delhi Excise Department has intensified raids to seize illicit liquor, with the latest being the recovery of 1,037 bottles of high-end brands from the Tagore Garden area here. The seizure was made from a godown on Thursday, officials of the department said. The liquor was sold through Whatsapp to people and delivered to them after verification to keep the entire operation under cover. The seized liquor was of brands such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivit, Black Dog, Chivas Regal, Teachers, Jack Daniels, Bacardi, Absolut, Grey Goose, Jacob Greek, Gold Reserve and Johnnie Walker Black Label. The department's excise intelligence bureau had received information that a large number of liquor bottles of prominent brands had been hidden at a godown at the Tagore Garden Extension area. Centre's excise duty cut: Industries urge states to give similar relief

India Inc, traders and exporters have welcomed the Centre's move to slash excise duty on auto fuels and urged states to follow suit to provide more relief to consumers.
