'Cong gains power by fake guarantees to turn states into ATMs of 1 family'

Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday claimed the Congress comes to power by making fake guarantees and turning states into the ATM of one family. Addressing a press conference here in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, he alleged the Congress has nothing to do with public welfare but wants to get power through fake guarantees and by misleading people, as evident in Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh. Everyone knows about the Congress and corruption as witnessed during the UPA government. Within four months of the Congress government in Karnataka, Rs 109 crore were found in the house of a contractor. Guarantees were not fulfilled but they started fulfilling their one motive - to make Karnataka an ATM, Chandrasekhar said. We had clearly said before the election that if the Congress is elected, Karnataka will become the ATM of one family and it was proved true, he claimed. The BJP leader said he belongs to Karnataka, where the Congress had given five major ...

Cong, BJP realising strength of 'PDA' ahead of polls: Akhilesh in MP

The Congress stopped caste census and implementation of the Mandal Commission report in the past and the BJP was taking a similar stand, but both parties know the importance of PDA, or pichhde (backwards), Dalits and Adivasis, said Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister claimed that the road where Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aircraft once landed was built by his SP government, apparently referring to the landing of a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft on Purvanchal Express in November 2021. Addressing a rally in Jatara constituency in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections will be held on November 17, Yadav said both the Congress and the BJP are now talking about caste census and reservations to woo the PDA segment. It was the Congress that stopped the caste census and refused to implement the Mandal Commission report. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is taking the same path. Now, Congress and BJP are

Summoning TMC's Mahua, no action against BJP's Bidhuri: Mani Shankar Aiyar

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Sunday alleged that the summoning of TMC MP Mahua Moitra by the Ethics Committee of Parliament over the cash-for-query row and no strict action against BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri for objectionable remark in Lok Sabha show double standards' on part of the Centre. He also claimed that the country has been passing through a very "critical stage" and that democracy is in "danger". Aiyar was speaking here at the launch of former chief election commissioner S Y Quraishi's book, 'India's Experiment with Democracy-The Life of Nation Through Its Elections'. "The spirit of the Indian Constitution must be protected. Each of our three pillars of democracy--the legislative, executive and judiciary--needs to remain strong. They constitute not only the form of parliamentary democracy but also its spirit. But it's not happening. The current dispensation at the Centre is adopting a different approach or has double standards in dealing with TMC's Mahua Moitra a

Rajasthan Assembly polls: Congress releases seventh list of candidates

The Congress on Sunday released its seventh list of 21 candidates for the November 25 Rajasthan assembly polls, fielding state minister Shanti Dhariwal from the Kota North seat. The last date for submission of the nomination papers is November 6. The party has denied a ticket to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's confidante and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dharmendra Rathore. Dhariwal and Rathore were among the three senior state leaders against whom the party's disciplinary committee had issued notices after they did not attend a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in the state and held a parallel meeting of MLAs instead last year. Rathore was seeking a ticket from the Ajmer North constituency. The Congress fielded Mahendra Singh Ralawata from the seat. Mahesh Joshi, the third leader who was issued a notice by the party's disciplinary committee, has already been denied a ticket for the Assembly polls. RR Tiwari has been fielded from Hawa Mahal in his place.

Cong wants to make MP its ATM for LS polls: Modi over K'taka 'power tussle'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday alleged the Congress wanted to turn Madhya Pradesh into an "ATM" for generating funds for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a rally in Khandwa in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Modi alleged the Congress was always concerned about the development of a single family. People have to save the state from the clutches of Congress. Ensure that it won't go into the wrong hands. Do you know why Congress is desperate to form a government in Madhya Pradesh? It wanted to make MP its ATM in view of the Lok Sabha elections. They want to loot money of state stashed in tractors, Modi said. When the Congress was in power at the Center, it had indulged in scams worth lakhs and crores and was not worried about the people, he said. "But now the people have recognised them and thrown them out of power from every corner of the country and therefore, they are looking at the states with a lot of greed," he said. Modi alleged wherever the Congress government w

2 senior Cong leaders fighting to establish sons, capture party in MP: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday targeted the opposition Congress, saying two of its senior leaders were fighting in Madhya Pradesh to establish their sons and to capture the party organisation in the state. A recent viral video of MP Congress president Kamal Nath where he is asking Congress workers to "tear clothes" of his colleague Digvijaya Singh over denial of ticket to a leader from Shivpuri had fuelled talks of a rift in the party over selection of nominees. However, both the former CMs have sought to make light of the episode and put up a united face ahead of the state polls scheduled on November 17. Addressing a public meeting in Seoni district of MP ahead of the state elections, Modi said the Congress, despite being in power for five-six decades in the country after Independence, did not do anything for the welfare of the tribal community. Modi also said the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna, providing free ration to 80 crore poor people, will be extended for th

Govt's move to extend free ration scheme indicates economic distress: Cong

The Congress on Sunday said the government's decision to extend the free ration scheme for another five years is an indication of the continuing high level of economic distress and growing inequalities in the country. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shifting his position on the issue. "His latest announcement is an indication of the continuing high level of economic distress and growing inequalities. For the vast majority of Indians incomes have not grown in line with the sky-high prices of essential commodities," Ramesh said in a post on X. He said the prime minister has announced that the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) will be extended by another five years. As chief minister of Gujarat he had consistently opposed the National Food Security Act (NFSA) passed by Parliament in Sept 2013, the Congress leader claimed. Ramesh said the PMGKY is nothing but the NFSA that already covered 80 crore Indians. "This of course is not the
