Misuse of probe agencies against rivals helps corrupt get away: Congress

The Congress on Friday said the relentless misuse of agencies against political rivals erodes their credibility and gives an opportunity even for the corrupt to get away. Soon after CBI raids were conducted at the residence of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said the honest end up paying the price in such processes. "The flip side to relentless misuse of agencies against political rivals is that even legitimate, rightful actions of agencies come under a cloud of suspicion. In the process, the corrupt get away hiding behind the 'misuse' argument and the honest end up paying the price," Khera said on Twitter. The CBI on Friday carried out searches at the residences of Manish Sisodia and IAS officer Arava Gopi Krishna and 19 other locations after registering an FIR in connection with Delhi excise policy case.

Karnataka: Congress leader challenges BJP to name Yediyurappa as CM face

Senior Congress leader M B Patil on Thursday accused the BJP of using veteran leader B S Yediyurappa for its 'survival,' by appointing him to its highest decision-making body, just ahead of Karnataka assembly polls 2023, and challenged the saffron party to name him as its Chief Minister face instead. Noting that Yediyurappa was forced to step down as the Chief Minister citing his age as the reason, the state Congress' campaign committee chairman, who is also considered as the party's Lingayat face, questioned as to whether his age is not a factor, when he is now inducted into the BJP's Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee. He rejected contention that Yediyurappa's induction into the BJP's top body affected Congress' prospects to attract Lingayat votes and said the community fully understands the ruling party's game of utilising the Lingayat strongman's services, only for the sake of elections. Lingayat, a dominant community, forms the major vote bank of the BJP. Both

Jairam Ramesh blames Centre for cancellation of CUET-UG at 13 centres

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday hit out at the Modi government over glitches in holding the Central University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG, saying it was due to the incompetence and lack of preparedness of the ruling dispensation. "The Common University Entrance Test had to be cancelled in 13 centres today affecting close to 8,700 aspirants. This has been happening repeatedly under the excuse of 'unavoidable technical glitches'," he said on Twitter. "The real reason is sheer incompetence and lack of preparation by Modi Sarkar!," Ramesh added. UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar on Wednesday said, "Due to some unavoidable technical reasons, examination scheduled for today was cancelled in 13 centres in Shift 1 and Shift 2. A total of 8,693 candidates were affected out of 1.45 lakh candidates. All the affected candidates will get a chance for a retest on August 25.
