The Noida Police on Sunday said it has arrested a general manager of a private construction company in connection with the lift crash that killed eight labourers, adding that the machine was operated "negligently" despite rain that morning. The responsibility of maintaining safety standards at the tower where the incident took place on Friday was with this accused general manager, who has been arrested, the police said. This is the second arrest in the case. The police have booked nine named people and some others over negligence with respect to the machinery and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Four more workers, who were hospitalised after a service lift crashed at an under-construction society in Noida Extension, succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, pushing the death toll in the incident to eight, officials said. A financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh each has been issued for families of those killed in the incident, a senior officer said. The lift had nine workers in it when it fell from the 14th floor of an under-construction tower at an Amrapali Dream Valley project site in Noida Extension, also known as Greater Noida (West), on Friday morning. The long-stalled project is being completed by the state-run NBCC under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. "Four workers had died after the incident on Friday. Five of them were admitted to the district hospital in a critical condition. Delhi High Court on Thursday directed that the authorities in the national capital will not grant permission to fell trees for the construction of houses. The high court also said that its order dated August 31, when the Delhi government had stated that no permission to fell trees for any individuals would be granted and any permission required for important projects would be intimated to the court till the next date of hearing, shall continue. Justice Jasmeet Singh granted two weeks' time to Anupam Srivastava, the Delhi government's additional standing counsel, to file a detailed report on the status of transplanted and replanted trees in the city. The court sought to know whether the process of transplantation or replantation was successful. "In the meantime, the directions contained in the August 31 order shall continue. The Bihar government has directed district authorities to display the "logo" of the state-sponsored 'Mukhya Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana' (MMGAY) in all houses that are being constructed under the scheme in the rural areas. In a recent circular issued to all Deputy Development Commissioners (DDCs) and other concerned officials of the district administration, the state Rural Development department has asked the DDCs to ensure the display of the logo in all houses being constructed under the MMGAY and 'Mukhya Mantri Vas Sthal Kraya Sahayata Yojana'. Bihar Rural Development minister Sharvan Kumar said that houses built under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) before 1996 have become dilapidated. The Sultanpuri underpass project in Delhi, work on which had begun in 2010, has been completed and it will be opened for the public on September 4, officials said on Saturday. The completion work has been pending for a long time, Mayor Shelly Oberoi's office said in a statement. Soon after the AAP-led government took charge in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the work was expedited and pending fund was arranged too, she was quoted as saying in the statement The underpass has now been completed and it will be thrown open to the public on September 4. It will help ease traffic movement in the area, the statement said. Mayor Oberoi will be present during the inauguration of the underpass.
The cost for constructing a new building of the Meghalaya Assembly building increased to Rs 200 with a High-Powered Committee (HPC) on Wednesday approving an escalated expenditure of Rs 60 crore for the purpose, Speaker Thomas A Sangma said. Addressing reporters, Sangma justified the escalation of price citing technical issues and increase in floor area. "The floor area has become bigger. The cost escalated is due to expansion of structural area and not due to the time required for completing the project," he said. The building is being constructed at New Shillong township near here. The project was delayed after the dome of the new assembly building collapsed in May last year. The Speaker said the project is progressing but there are some technical issues, which are unavoidable. The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects have been secured from Dubai Government Workshop Warehouse and Dubai Police, the company said in a statement. "Gensol Engineering announces its first international Solar EPC project in Dubai. Aggregating to a capacity of 14.08 MWp, these projects have a cumulative order value of Rs 101.6 crore, without taking taxes into account," it said. The two turnkey contracts with the Dubai Government Workshop Warehouse and Dubai Police entail design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning along with the operation and maintenance of these projects. State-owned construction firm NBCC has received a Rs 66 crore order from the Indian Medical Association to plan and execute IMA House in the national capital. In a regulatory filing on Monday, NBCC said it bagged a project management consultancy work order worth Rs 66.32 crore from the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The scope of the order is "planning, designing and execution of IMA House" at Indraprastha, IP Estate, New Delhi. The contract is to be completed within 30 months. NBCC is mainly into project management consultancy and real estate businesses.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has taken disciplinary action against six contractors for not completing projects on time, an official said on Sunday. A contractor, who was awarded the work of repairing roads in northeast Delhi has been debarred from tendering in Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for six months from the date of issue of order since he "had failed to complete the work", the official said. Similarly, another contractor firm has been debarred from tendering in CPWD for six months for not completing the work on the deteriorated portion of a road on Uttar Pradesh Link Road. Another contractor, who was awarded five contracts including the construction of the boundary wall of the new Rao Tula Ram Flyover, in 2021 was debarred from tendering for nine months. The other contractors have been disqualified for six months. All these contractors are registered with the CPWD. Ircon International Ltd on Monday said it has bagged orders worth Rs 144 crore from N F Railway Construction in Manipur. The company received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from N F Railway Construction on July 17. In a regulatory filing, Ircon International Ltd (Ircon) said it has has been awarded the work for supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of integrated tunnel communication systems, optical fibre cable-based industrial grade network system. The laying of the optical fibre cables and other cables for the railway network will also cover tunnels and stations in the Jiribam-Khongsang section of the Jiribam-Imphal new railway line project. The Rs 144 crore-order, bagged through a competitive bidding, is to be completed within 365 days from the date of issuance of the LoA. The Delhi government Tuesday issued new safety guidelines for construction sites, saying the contractor will be blacklisted in case of any accident leading to a loss of life, while administrative action will be initiated against officials too. The new safety guidelines come in the aftermath of two deaths at separate Public Works Department construction sites here. In an official circular, the Delhi government said there should be proper barricading and signages at construction sites and the contractor has to ensure no waterlogging. Administrative action will be taken against officials in case of any accident, it said. "In case of any accident leading to a loss of life on the construction site due to lack of safety protocol, the contractor shall be black-listed, an FIR shall be lodged and administrative action shall be initiated against the Engineer in-charge," according to an official circular.
