World Cup 2023: Rohit hints changes in Playing 11 ahead of Afghanistan game

Rohit Sharma on Sunday admitted that the biggest challenge in front of his side would be to play in different conditions over the course of the World Cup, and the Indian captain did not rule out making changes in team combinations to suit the demands of a particular venue. However, Rohit heaved a sigh of relief after India recovered from a precarious 2/3 to beat Australia by six wickets and begin their campaign in the showpiece on a positive note. "That will be the biggest challenge moving forward because we will play in different conditions. (We) might have to change combinations too and as a team we are prepared to do that," said Rohit during the post-match presentation. Rohit was particularly pleased with the team's fielding. "Good feeling to come out on top. Magnificent, especially the fielding. The fielding was something we really put our effort on. It was a great effort. "In conditions like this it can be tough sometimes. We knew there would be assistance for everyone. Seame

Cricket World Cup 2023: Australia, Cummins wary of Indian spin challenge

Australian captain Pat Cummins said negating Indian spinners on a Chepauk pitch that is expected to offer turn and grip in plenty would be the biggest challenge for his batters in their World Cup opener here on Sunday. India could be fielding three spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin against the Aussies. They're a good bowling line-up, especially in home conditions. So, they're going to be challenging, Cummins said in the pre-match press conference here on Saturday. However, Cummins hoped that past experience of playing against the Indian spinners would stand them in good stead. The good thing is that we've played them a lot. So, our batters will have their own plans. We've had success against them a few times. They've bowled well against us a few times as well, said Cummins. Cummins also banked on the IPL experience of some Australian players to come up trumps against the tweakers. It's a ground (MA Chidambaram) we've played quite often. It feels l

ICC World Cup BAN vs AFG: Shakib happy with allrounders' effort in easy win

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is happy with the overall performance of his side in the six-wicket win over Afghanistan in their World Cup opener and is delighted with the contributions of the all-rounders in the cause. Opting to bowl, Bangladesh bowlers put up an impressive performance, bowling out Afghanistan for 156. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (57) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (59 not out) then struck respective half-centuries to take Bangladesh over the line as they finished at 158 for four in 34.4 overs, winning with more than 15 overs to spare. Despite the comfortable win, by his own admission Shakib wasn't happy with the start but appreciated the contribution of all-rounders in the victory. "We didn't get the start we wanted, everyone believed once we get a wicket, we could get more (quickly). It wasn't easy but I am very happy the way we bowled," he said after the easy win. "We have been training really hard in the last few days and we didn't want to make any excuse that the grou

ICC World Cup: Stoinis' fitness in spotlight, Australia sweat on playing 11

Australian captain Pat Cummins said the team management is keeping a close watch on the fitness of all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who has picked up a hamstring injury, ahead of their World Cup match against India here on Sunday. Cummins said Stoinis would be put through his paces in the next few hours before taking a final call on the Western Australian cricketer. "We'll announce a team tomorrow at the toss. Stoinis, yeah, still touch and go. He's going to have a run out soon, but probably up against it. He's got to jump through a few hoops. Yeah, we'll see," said Cummins on Saturday during his pre-match press meet. However, Cummins was not really perturbed because his side has a wonderful array of all-rounders who can step in for Stoinis. "I think in one-day cricket more than any other formats you need all-rounders -- you've got to try and find 50 overs. "So, we feel really blessed to have people like Cam (Cameron) Green, Mitch Marsh, Glenn Maxwell in the side. They're like gold. It

ICC World Cup: Facilitating visas for Pakistan media BCCI's duty, says ICC

The BCCI is working hard on procuring visas for the Pakistani journalists waiting to travel to India for the World Cup, the International Cricket Council said after PCB expressed its disappointment again over the delay in visa clearance for its fans and media. Around 60 Pakistani journalists are expected to make the trip across the border. Pakistan had plenty of local support for their World Cup opener against Netherlands here on Friday but no member of their media contingent or fan was present. Karachi-born Mohammad Bashir, who is a US citizen, was seen rooting for Pakistan in the stands. While the ICC is the World Cup organiser, the BCCI is hosting the ODI showpiece. This (visa) is an obligation of our host (BCCI) and they are working hard on it with our full support. Every effort is being made to get this sorted, an ICC Spokesperson told PTI. With a large number of fans expected to travel across the border, the PCB is hoping that the visas will come through before the big game

Chokers tag will stay till we win the Cricket World Cup says, SA's Bavuma

The current South African team members are divided whether the chokers tag applies to them or not but everyone is aware that the narrative will stick with them until the Proteas win a silverware, skipper Temba Bavuma said on Friday. Despite having world class players at their disposal, South Africa have never gone beyond the semifinal stage at the World Cup, earning them the tag of perennial chokers. "I've used it a couple of times but you don't really hear it coming about within the team," Bavuma said when asked if the current group uses the word "choke". "I think there are guys who believe that it applies to this team, there are guys who don't believe that it applies to this team. "The belief amongst the team, that's the most important bit I bring up to just make sure that we're not kind of skirting around the issue that it's something that is there, it's something that will always have to deal with." Bavuma feels the team needs to accept the narrative, which will go away by its
