Befitting reply will be given to those who cast evil eye on India: Rajnath

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday warned India's "neighbour" that if anyone tried to harm the country, a befitting reply will be given. He was speaking at a rally in Chhattisgarh's tribal-dominated Kanker district. India has emerged as a powerful country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and it is not weak anymore, he said. "I want to tell our neighbour, if anyone tries to cast evil eye on us, a befitting reply will be given," the minister added. He also said that the influence of the Left Wing Extremism has declined and it is restricted to just 10-12 districts due to the effective action taken by the Modi government in the last nine years. The Naxal menace would have been wiped out from Chhattisgarh had the Congress government in the state cooperated fully, he claimed. Notably, elections are due in Chhattisgarh by year-end. The defence minister also alleged that forced religious conversions were on rise in the state, particularly in Bastar, and said the .

Delivering a lecture at a leading think tank here a day ahead of his talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Manalo said his country has "repeatedly" challenged Chinese presence in the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) of the Philippines in the South China sea and will continue to do so. The Filipino foreign secretary, on a four-day visit to India, said the 10 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries and China have been engaged to formulate a code of conduct (CoC) for the South China Sea, but he appeared unsure about a positive outcome. The code is envisioned to prevent any military conflict in the South China Sea, a region that has overlapping territorial claims

Allow Indians to work on US defence projects, says venture capitalist

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to the US, an eminent Indian-American venture capitalist has said Indians should be allowed to work on US defense projects as it would give a big boost to the bilateral ties and reduce the cost of innovation in the US defense sector. Prime Minister Modi, when he comes here, should ask for that, said Venkatesh Shukla, general partner, Monta Vista Capital, and former TiE Global chairperson. Opening up of the US defense sector for Indian software companies would help reduce the security vulnerabilities of the US defense sector, would give a big boost to bilateral ties, boost the innovation ecosystem in India and reduce the cost of innovation in the US defense sector, he asserted. "One area that is huge here. It's completely untapped by India, and that area is ..it's software for the Department of Defense and all the critical infrastructure," Shukla told PTI in an interview.
