Win of Delhi people, defeat of 'hooliganism': Kejriwal on mayoral poll win

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday congratulated the people of Delhi over AAP councilor Shelly Oberoi's win in the mayoral poll and hit out at the BJP saying the public won and the "goons" were defeated. Oberoi defeated BJP councilor Rekha Gupta by 34 votes in the election to the top post in the first meeting of newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) . "The goons lost, the public won. In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the people of Delhi won and hooliganism was defeated. Congratulations to the people of Delhi on Shelly Oberoi being elected mayor," Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi without naming anyone. The election of mayor took place in the backdrop of a Supreme Court order recently ruling against voting rights of 10 aldermen appointed by the Lt Governor VK Saxena. Previous three attempts to elect Delhi mayor were fruitless with the AAP and BJP fighting it out in the MCD House meetings over the issue of appointment of protem mayor and aldermen.

After much delay since the high-stakes civic polls in Delhi, the stage is set for the election of a new mayor on Wednesday following a Supreme Court order. Delhi govt plans to allow only electric two-wheelers to ply as bike taxis

The aggregator policy being finalised by the Delhi government proposes to allow only electric two-wheelers to ply as bike taxis, officials said on Tuesday. The aggregator policy for two-, three- and four-wheelers is in its final stages and will be rolled out soon, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said on Monday. A senior official said, "The aggregator policy, which is being finalised, plans to bring in norms to regularise these vehicles. The policy will make it mandatory for aggregators to on-board electric two-wheelers and encourage sustainable transportation, which is our focus. "The policy should be finalised soon but of course there will be a long route ahead." The Delhi government's Transport department has launched a crackdown against two-wheelers with private registration marks being used for commercial purposes. Delhi records minimum temperature of 16.1 degrees C, 5 notches above normal

The mercury in the national capital settled at 16.1 degrees Celsius Tuesday morning, five notches above normal. Delhi had on Monday recorded the third hottest February day since 1969 with the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory, the national capital's primary weather station, soaring to 33.6 degrees Celsius. The reading on Monday was nine notches above normal. On Tuesday, the relative humidity was recorded at 84 per cent, according to the IMD data. The minimum temperature in the morning stood at 16.1 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal. Delhi on Monday had registered a low of 13.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The weatherman has predicted mainly clear sky during day time. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality stood in the poor' category as the air quality index (AQI) read 250. Delhi records min temp of 13.1 deg Celsius, 2 notches above season's avg

Delhiites woke up to a humid Monday morning with the minimum temperature settling at 13.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average. The relative humidity in the city at 8.30 am was recorded at 91 per cent. The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy sky for the day with the maximum temperature likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality stood in the 'very poor' category as the air quality index (AQI) read 343. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'. Delhi on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches above the season's average and the highest in the month in two years, the India Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature settled at 11.4 degrees Celsius, normal for the season, it said.

AIMIM President Owaisi alleges attack on Delhi residence by miscreants

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday alleged his residence in the national capital was attacked by unidentified miscreants, and said this was the fourth such incident since 2014. The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader, who was on a visit to Rajasthan, said he has submitted a complaint to Delhi Police in connection with the incident. "My Delhi residence has been attacked again. This is the fourth incident since 2014. Earlier tonight, I returned from Jaipur & was informed by my domestic help that a bunch of miscreants pelted stones that resulted in broken windows. @DelhiPolice must catch them immediately," he said in a series of tweets. "It's concerning that this has happened in a so-called 'high security' zone. I've submitted a complaint to the cops & they've reached my residence," Owaisi added.

CBI defers questioning on Dy CM Sisodia's request for more time

The CBI on Sunday deferred the questioning of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the Delhi Excise policy scam case after he sought time from the probe agency citing the city government's ongoing budget exercise. The agency had asked Sisodia to appear for questioning on Sunday. The central probe agency accepted Sisodia's application to defer the questioning and will give a new date soon, officials said. Sisodia on Sunday said the BJP was using the probe agency to take "revenge" from him and expressed apprehension that he would be arrested. No liquor scam in Delhi, excise policy case political vendetta: Kejriwal

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asserted that there was no "liquor scam" in Delhi and that the case over his government's excise policy was created as a result of "political vendetta and conspiracy" ahead of his deputy Manish Sisodia's questioning by the CBI slated for Sunday. Metro services to be partially curtailed on Delhi's Yellow Line on Sunday

Delhi Metro operations between Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya stations will be partially curtailed for a few hours on Sunday due to maintenance work, officials said on Saturday. "To undertake the scheduled track maintenance work between Kashmere Gate and Vishwavidyalaya section of the Yellow Line (i.e. HUDA City Centre to Samaypur Badli), train services will not be available on two stations i.e, Civil Lines and Vidhan Sabha falling in this section till 06.30 AM from start of revenue services on 19.02.2023," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement. Civil Lines and Vidhan Sabha Metro stations will remain closed from the start of revenue services till 6.30 am, it said. "Connectivity between Kashmere Gate Metro station and Vishwavidyalaya metro stations will be provided through free feeder bus service during this period," it added. Passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly, officials said.

AAP says LG supported BJP in delaying mayor polls, demands his resignation

The Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest on Saturday outside the Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena's house here demanding his resignation for allegedly supporting "BJP's hooliganism" and delaying the mayoral polls.
