MCD polls: BJP releases 'Sankalp Patra', promises 100% garbage processing

Union minister Piyush Goyal on Friday released the BJP's party manifesto 'Sankalp Patra' for Delhi MCD polls which includes bringing all services online and 100 per cent garbage processing. Reading out the 12-point manifesto, Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said all services of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be brought online through a mobile application within 100 days. "Hundred per cent garbage will be processed through waste-to-energy conversion for a green and clean Delhi. Every slum dweller will be provided flats and 17,000 flats are ready for allotment. The BJP will also do away with trade and health licenses, and also abolish factory licenses," he said. Gupta also announced that 50 'jan rasois' run by women will be opened in the city at Rs 5 per meal. "Free cycles will be provided to meritorious girls in MCD schools and all such schools will be upgraded as smart schools by 2027," he added. Over 100 shops gutted in fire at wholesale market in Delhi's Chandni Chowk

Around 100 shops were gutted in a massive fire in the wholesale market of Bhagirath Palace area in Chandni Chowk here even as the cooling operations are currently underway, police said on Friday. No injuries have been reported so far, they said. Five major buildings got affected during the fire-fighting operations out of which three collapsed, they said. According to the fire department, a call about the blaze was received at 9.19 pm on Thursday and 40 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. At present, 22 fire tenders are engaged in the cooling process as the fire has been brought under control after more than 12 hours, a fire department official said. The fire broke out in a shop in Mahalaxmi Market and soon spread to adjacent ones, all dealing in electrical appliances, officials said. CBI files charge sheet in Delhi Excise policy scam case, say officials

The CBI on Friday filed its first charge sheet against seven accused in the Delhi Excise policy scam case, officials said. Those named in the charge sheet include two arrested businessmen, the head of a news channel, a Hyderabad-based liquor businessman, a Delhi-based liquor distributor and two officials of the excise department, they said. The agency has kept the probe open, officials added.

Govt fixes indicative value for The Ashok hotel under NMP at Rs 7,409 crore

The government has fixed an indicative value for Delhi's iconic 'The Ashok' hotel at Rs 7,409 crore under the national monetisation programme, according to sources. The Ashok and the adjacent hotel Samrat are among the eight India Tourism Development Corp assets listed under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman last year. The sources said investor consultation has already been undertaken and a cabinet note for the sale of the sprawling 25-acre property in the heart of the national capital is under consideration. "The Ashok hotel's monetisation will take place through public-private partnership(PPP) mode and an indicative value of the hotel has been fixed at Rs 7,409 crore," the sources told PTI. A court here has rejected the bail plea of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Tahir Hussain in a 2020 northeast Delhi riots case registered against him. The court observed that witnesses who had deposed regarding Hussain's role in the case would be "under tremendous pressure and threat" if he was granted bail. Hussain had applied for bail in the case which was registered on a statement by complainant Ajay Goswami who had suffered a bullet injury during an incident of rioting on the Main Karawal Nagar Road on February 25, 2020. The court had framed charges against Hussain and seven others in the case for offences, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, on November 5. MCD elections 2022: Congress promises RO water purifiers to poor in Delhi

The Congress on Thursday promised to provide RO water purifiers to the poor if voted to power in the municipal elections here as it launched its 'Saaf Paani Wali Dilli, Sheila Dikshit Wali Dilli' campaign for the polls. Delhi: Ring Road traffic to be hit for 11 mths due to flyover construction

Vehicular movement will be affected on the Ring Road between Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh in Delhi for around 11 months due to construction of an elevated road, police said on Thursday. The Delhi Police issued the traffic advisory, asking people to avoid these stretches. "Traffic will remain affected on Ring Road in both the carriageways from Rajouri Garden towards Punjabi Bagh & vice-versa for approx. 11 months," it tweeted. Delhi court directs Tihar Jail to provide Satyendar Jain food as per rules

A Delhi court on Wednesday directed Tihar jail authorities to provide food to jailed AAP minister Satyendar Kumar Jain during his religious fast in accordance with the relevant rules. Special Judge Vikas Dhull passed the order while directing the jail authorities to file their reply by tomorrow containing details of food provided to Jain in the past six months. The court was hearing a plea moved by Jain, alleging the jail administration had stopped giving him the food allowed "as per law" during his religious fast. Delhi's min temp settles at 8 deg C, AQI remains in 'poor' category

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius, the lowest so far this season and 'poor' air quality on Wednesday. The capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 237 on Wednesday, as against 255 on Tuesday. An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'. The air quality is predicted to deteriorate to very poor quality by Friday due to a likely drop in wind speed. The IMD said the capital recorded a minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius -- three notches below normal. It is the lowest temperature in the month since November 23, 2020 (6.2 degrees Celsius). Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain, in the eye of a political storm over leaked videos showing him getting special treatment in jail, on Wednesday urged a Delhi court to restrain media from running any footage from inside his prison cell. Delhi Congress on Wednesday said it will waive off dues of private residential buildings, if voted to power in the upcoming polls to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Launching a campaign, "House Tax - Pichhla Maaf, Agla half", the party's Delhi chief Anil Chaudhary said his party will also reduce the property tax by 50 per cent.
