At the end of his five-day police custody, Poonawala was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla who extended his custody by four more days and allowed his polygraph test. Poonawala told the court that he had committed the crime in the heat of the moment and that he was cooperating with the police, the counsel said. The counsel also said that Poonawala expressed difficulty in exactly identifying the places where he had allegedly thrown the body parts as he was not familiar with the city. The mercury settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius in Delhi on Tuesday morning, two notches below normal, the Met office said. The metropolis had recorded its coldest morning of the season on Monday as the minimum temperature had fell to 8.9 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded in the 'very poor' category at 9 am at Anand Vihar, Dwarka, Jahangirpuri and Shadipur weather stations. The AQI was in the 'poor' category largely at rest of the stations in Delhi, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. An AQI between 201 and 300 is considered poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 27 degrees Celsius, with the Met office forecasting mainly clear sky.
Delhi Metro operations on the Grey Line will not be available for an hour on Tuesday to undertake speed trials on the Dwarka-Dhansa Bus Stand section, officials said. The Grey Line spans a little over five km between Dwarka and Dhansa Bus Stand with four stations. "To undertake speed trials on the Dwarka-Dhansa Bus Stand section (Grey Line) for enhancement of speed and overall improvement in quality of train operations, services will not be available between Dwarka and Dhansa Bus Stand for one hour i.e, from 12:30 pm to 01:30 pm," the DMRC said in a statement. Passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly, it said.

A total of 2,021 candidates have filed their nomination papers with the poll authorities for the upcoming civic elections in Delhi, sources said on Tuesday.
