With the country getting its highest-ever rank in the ICAO aviation safety rankings, DGCA chief Arun Kumar on Sunday said the challenge now is to maintain and further improve the air safety ecosystem. The comments also come against the backdrop of the country's aviation sector slowly coming back into the growth trajectory after being severely hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and the domestic air traffic is also inching towards the pre-pandemic level. BCAS withdraws accreditation of Jet Airways' training facilities

Aviation security agency BCAS has withdrawn the accreditation given to Jet Airways' aviation security training facilities amid continuing uncertainty over the recommencement of the airline's operations, according to sources. Jalan Kalrock consortium has emerged as the winning bidder for the bankrupt airline through an insolvency resolution process. A spokesperson for the Jalan Kalrock Consortium on Tuesday claimed that the accreditation was surrendered voluntarily. On November 18, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) informed the airline about the withdrawal of the accreditation, the sources said. "The competent authority has revoked the accreditation granted to both the Aviation Security Training Institutes (ASTIs) of Jet Airways at Gurugram and Mumbai. The airline may apply afresh for approval of its ASTIs as and when it is ready for inspection," BCAS said in a communication. Domestic air traffic increased by 10% in October, shows DGCA data

Indian airlines carried 1.14 crore passengers in October, 10 per cent higher than the number of people flown in September. Data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday showed that domestic air traffic jumped nearly 27 per cent to 114.07 lakh last month compared to the year-ago period when it was 89.85 lakh. In September, the air traffic number stood at 103.55 lakh. Air traffic has been picking up in recent months after the airline industry was significantly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The country's largest airline IndiGo's market share declined to 56.7 per cent in October compared to the previous month when it stood at 58 per cent. The market share of Vistara also fell to 9.2 per cent last month from 9.6 per cent in September, as per the data. India's scores in ICAO air safety audit to improve substantially: DGCA

India's scores in the ICAO's air safety oversight audit will improve substantially as the international watchdog's just-concluded validation mission was highly successful as per the initial reports, regulator DGCA said on Wednesday. ICAO is the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Under its Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach, an ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) was undertaken from November 9 to 16. In a release on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said the audit was conducted in the areas of legislation, organisation, personal licensing, operations, airworthiness and aerodromes. "As per the initial reports, the mission was highly successful. Jaipur International Airport receives Aerodrome licence from DGCA

Jaipur International Airport Limited has received the Aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) following which the airport has embarked on an expansion drive, a company official said. Earlier, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) was the licence holder. Now the private player, which is operating the Jaipur airport since October 2021, has become the new licence holder. The licence is given to an airport operator for ensuring complete management of the airport in accordance with the concession agreement. IndiGo plane suffered engine stall; surge in airflow cause of fire: Report

An IndiGo plane, which aborted take off at the Delhi airport on Friday night, had suffered "engine stall" leading to a surge in the airflow resulting in a momentary fire in the engine exhaust, according to DGCA sources. A loud bang was also heard following a warning of the failure of an engine of the aircraft, which was to fly to Bengaluru with 184 people on board. There was no injury to any person on board the aircraft, sources at the regulator said. Follow-up action after probe into IndiGo plane's engine fire incident: DGCA

Aviation regulator DGCA on Saturday said it will take suitable follow-up action after conducting a detailed probe into an incident of an IndiGo plane's engine catching fire at the Delhi airport. A Bengaluru-bound A320 ceo aircraft, carrying 184 people, aborted takeoff at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here due to fire in one of its engines Friday night. The plane returned to the bay and passengers were deboarded safely. "The priority is to carry out a detailed investigation of the incident and ascertain the reasons for the fire in the engine. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished swiftly and the aircraft is now grounded," DGCA chief Arun Kumar told PTI. He said the engine that caught fire was an IAEV2500. SpiceJet gets DGCA nod for wet leasing 5 planes; 2 aircraft operating

SpiceJet has received aviation regulator DGCA's approval for wet leasing five Boeing 737 Max planes for up to six months and the airline has already deployed two of the aircraft on different routes, according to sources. The approval for taking the planes on wet lease was given by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) earlier this month. The sources said the remaining three aircraft will be inducted into SpiceJet fleet in the coming weeks. There was no immediate comment from SpiceJet. The airline already has Boeing 737 Max planes in its fleet. To cater to rising demand in the winter schedule which begins from October 30, SpiceJet and IndiGo have received approval for their proposals to take planes on wet lease.
