The season's first snowfall in Srinagar began on Saturday afternoon and several inches of snow had accumulated in the city. An official of the MeT Department said this was first time since 2009 that Srinagar city witnessed snowfall in November. "So rare is the occurrence that in the last two decades, it was only the fourth time that it has snowed in Srinagar in November with 2008 and 2004 being the earlier instances," he said. A 50-year-old man was killed and two others were injured when they were struck by lightning in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Saturday. Farooq Ahmad Bakarwal, his daughter Rafia and uncle Abdullah were hit by the lightning inside their house at Kun Darorian village in the Katra area around midnight, a police official said. An Indonesian diver died while recovering body parts from the ill-fated Lion Air plane which crashed into the sea killing 189 people, an official said Saturday. Syachrul Anto, 48, who died on Friday, was part of the team searching for body parts and debris from the jet in the Java Sea. "He was a volunteer with the Search and Rescue Agency," Isswarto, commander of the Indonesian navy's search and rescue division, told AFP. It is believed he died from decompression, he added. The fire department says one person is dead and another was unaccounted after a weather-related building collapse at an Amazon distribution warehouse on Baltimore's southeast side, the Baltimore Sun reports. National carrier Air India cancelled a Jeddah-bound flight from the city via Hyderabad late Friday night, eight hours after its scheduled departure time and without offering any reason to around 300 harried passengers. Flight AI 965 was scheduled to take off at 1500 hrs but the airline informed the passengers only at around 2300 hrs that it was being pulled out of operations. Nine people of a family, including two girls sustained burn injuries in a fire incident that occurred during a religious ritual here Friday, police said. The incident happened in Pitambara Colony where Ashok Kushwah had organised a Hawan ritual for his son's birthday, they said. A 28-year-old man was Friday injured after the septic tank of a public toilet in neighbouring Navi Mumbai exploded due to accumulation of toxic gases, a Fire Brigade official said. The 28-year-old man was using the facility when the explosion in the septic tank occurred, the official said, adding that the impact was such that the roofs of the toilet and of a house nearby were blown off. The man has sustained severe injuries in the incident which took place in Sector 7 of Rabale area and is undergoing treatment at Vashi general hospital, he said. A day after AAI officials said that two IndiGo aircraft averted a mid-air collision, the airline said Friday both planes had "sufficient horizontal and vertical separation" within the regulatory requirements. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials had said that possible collision of the two IndiGo aircraft was averted after the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower in Kolkata instructed one plane to turn right and move away from the other one that had come at the same level. The incident happened at the border airspace of India and Bangladesh, AAI officials said Thursday. The Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety will probe the Amritsar tragedy in which 60 Dussehra revellers were mowed down by a passing train, the Indian Railways said Friday, nearly two weeks after it had ruled out any investigation in the tragedy. A day after the accident on October 19, the railways had termed it a "case of trespassing". In a statement Friday, the railways, however, said since the CCRS can conduct an inquiry even in those cases where it is not mandatory as per law and rules, it will do the same in this case as well.
