Over 3,600 people have been rescued from the flood-affected regions of Tripura and Assam, the NDRF said today. Ten teams of the central relief and rescue force, comprising about 450 personnel, have been deployed to tackle the flood situation in Tripura. "The NDRF teams have evacuated more than 3,400 people in the state so far, and relief and rescue operations are continuing," a spokesperson for the force said. The National Disaster Response Force teams, he said, are also distributing drinking water, food, snacks and medicines in the affected areas, he said. The flood situation in Tripura deteriorated today with the rain-fed Khowai river inundating fresh areas rendering thousands homeless and damaging roads and crops, officials said. A woman was killed and four members of the same family were injured when their car fell into a deep gorge in the district, an official said today. The car fell into an 80-feet deep gorge near Kulhad, killing a 57-year-old woman on the spot, SDRF in-charge Gabbar Singh Negi said. The family from Mayur Vihar area in Delhi was going in their own car to Mayalgaon to participate in a puja when the accident took place, he said. Four people, including a seven-year-old girl, were injured in the accident. They were rushed to a health centre in Satpuli from where they were referred to Kotdwar base hospital, Negi said.

A nine-year-old boy fell into a water tank and drowned here this evening, a civic official said. The boy, Kunal Bagul, accidentally fell into the water tank located adjacent a public toilet in Mahatma Phule Nagar in Kalwa town and drowned, Santosh Kadam, chief of the Thane civic body's Regional Disaster Management Cell, said. The toll in rain related incidents in Kerala since onset of the monsoon rose to 45 today with the recovery of the body of a baby girl and a teenaged boy being washed away in flash floods in the district, officials said. The body of one and half year old Rifa Mariyam was recovered from under the rubble in a landslide at Kattipara, while Abhinav (17) was swept away in flash floods near his village in Vadakara taluk, they said. Miriyam's mother has also been reported missing in the landslide. The flood situation in Assam deteriorated drastically today with nearly four lakh people affected across seven districts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 3.87 lakh people have been affected in Hojai, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Golaghat, Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts in the first wave of floods to have hit the state this year. Till yesterday, the number of flood-hit people stood at 1.67 lakh in seven districts. So far, three persons have lost their lives in landslides and flood-related incidents in different parts of the state. Four women were today killed and eight persons seriously injured in a collision on National Highway-28 in Bihar's Samastipur district, police said. The incident occurred near Chausima village under Musrigharari Police Station, when an ill-fated autorickshaw, carrying a dozen passengers, collided head on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, they said. Musrigharari Police Station SHO Parmanand Lal Karna said that the deceased have been identified as Piyariya Devi (60), Kusma Devi (48), Chuniya Devi (40) and Ranju Devi (34). All of them, including the injured, were returning to their native village in the district, after taking a holy dip in river Ganages in Begusarai district, he said. The injured persons have been admitted to hospital for treatment in Samastipur, he said, and the bodies have been sent to sadar hospital for post mortem. The driver and cleaner of the truck managed to escape from the spot after the accident, Karna added.
At least 1,066 families have so far been evacuated to safer places due to floods, state disaster management and rehabilitation department officials today said. The officials said that the worst-hit villages were south Mizoram Lunglei district's Tlabung town and its surrounding villages like Lamthai, Tipperaghat and Serhuan where 700 families were shifted to safer places after their homes were inundated by the flooding Chhimtuipui river along the Mizoram-Bangladesh border areas. More than 1.5 lakh people remained marooned in two flood-hit districts of Manipur as the disaster management department said today that the situation in the Imphal Valley worsened with the death toll rising to six.
