Rescuers in the US have found the body of a woman while searching for a missing Indian family of four who are feared drowned in a California river. An inter-agency search and rescue team in California yesterday recovered some personal items and numerous parts of a vehicle from a swollen river in which the missing Indian family was travelling last week. Personal belongings of the four members of the family from Santa Clarita in California, who were believed to be travelling through Humboldt and Mendocino County on US-101 while on a vacation, were also found by the team over a two-day period on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said. Five coaches of the Katni-Chaupan passenger train derailed today between the Salhna and Piparia Kalan stations in Madhya Pradesh, leaving at least six people injured, a railway official said. The derailment occurred around 10 pm, about 30 km away from the Katni railway station, Railway Protection Force Inspector Virendra Singh said. West Central Railway's Chief Public Relation Officer Gunjan Gupta confirmed the derailment and said that further detail were awaited . Singh said at least six passengers sustained injuries in the incident. A relief train had reached the site. The reason for the derailment is not yet clear.

An unmanned Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) of the Indian Navy crashed in Gujarat on Saturday about 25 kms from Porbandar.The aircraft was on a routine surveillance mission when it lost datalink communication with the Ground Station and crashed on Saturday afternoon at around 1258h approximately 20 nautical miles south-east of Porbandar.Indian Navy said there has been no injury or loss of life or damage to property caused by the crash.An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain reasons leading to the crash.
The Kerala police has begun investigation into the death of Gopinath Pillai, father of Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Sheikh who was shot dead in an alleged fake encounter in Gujarat in 2004, in a road accident. Seventy eight year-old Pillai, who hailed from Charummodu in the district was involved in an accident on April 11 when he was on his way to Kochi for medical treatment. He died yesterday. Police said they have seized three vehicles involved in the mishap. The probe was only to rule out any foul play in the mishap as some suspicions had been raised by some quarters. However, investigation so far has revealed that it was an accident. A case under 304A (causing death by negligence) has been registered, they said. China's AC313, the heavy-lift helicopter for civilian purposes, has cleared the performance authentication test by aviation experts, the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics said today. The authentication committee, led by two Chinese academicians, believed the AC313's technology as well as its performance on the plateau have reached an advanced international level, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The helicopter was developed and manufactured by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China in Jingdezhen City, east China's Jiangxi Province. The AC313 had its maiden flight in Jingdezhen in March 2010. It completed two trial flights on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in 2010 and 2011. Mass production of the aircraft began in 2012. The aircraft is suitable for emergency rescue operations, forest fire response, transportation, offshore operations, medical aid, sightseeing and business trips, the report said.
A shutdown, driverless diesel locomotive today rolled down the tracks before derailing at Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi, an official said, a week after 22 coaches of an express train travelled 10 km without its engine in Odisha. The incident happened at 14:33pm, when the diesel loco suddenly started rolling down the tracks at Anand Vihar station. The possible cause for the incident is the failure of the hand-brake, a Northern Railway spokesman said. "It rolled for about 40m and derailed at a point on the East end of the line by three wheels. All movements are safe and other train movements are normal. The driver has been suspended and an enquiry has been ordered," the spokesman said. Hand-brake is applied from within the locomotive when it is shut down and "parked". "There are dozens of locos that are shut down everyday and parked with their hand-brakes applied and no untoward incident happens if the handbrakes are gripping the wheels correctly," an officer explained. Several birds were killed in a devastating storm in Agra on Wednesday night which uprooted trees and affected human lives, non-profit organisation Widlife SOS said in a statement. "The wildlife conservation NGO has attended to a multitude of distress calls about birds such as peacocks, parakeets, kites and pigeons in the past 72 hours and has deployed their rescue units across Agra. Of the most affected were peacocks that were knocked down from trees only to be attacked by dogs. Many had sustained severe bite wounds and unfortunately some succumbed to the injuries despite all efforts to treat them," it said. Two persons, incluidng a nine- year-old girl, were killed and seven others injured when a truck rammed into an autorickshaw packed with passengers on the Mumbai-Ahmedbad highway near here, police said today. The mishap took place at Charoti last evening when the autorickshaw was ferrying back a group of pilgrims after a visit to a temple fair, Inspector Jaiprakash Gute of the Kasa police station said. A speeding truck collided with the autorickshaw, leaving nine people injured, he said, adding two of them later died at separate hospitals. The deceased were identified as Prachi Andher (9) and Ladkya Babal (30), the auto driver, the police said. The injured were being treated in local hospitals, they added. The truck driver has been taken into custody and his vehicle seized, the police added.
