Fire mishap at Chutneys restaurant, cause uncertain

A fire broke at Chutneys restaurant in Kukatpally of Hyderabad, early morning today.Soon after the mishap, three fire tenders from Kukatpally, Madhapur and Sanathnagar Fire Stations rushed to the spot. According to officials, teams comprising of 20 firefighters were deployed to douse the flames. The cause of the fire is yet not certain, however, no casualties have been reported so far.

Plane crashes in Iran killing all 66 aboard

An Iranian passenger plane on a domestic flight crashed into the country's Zagros mountains today killing all 66 people on board, officials said. The Aseman Airlines flight left Tehran's Mehrabad airport around 0800 for the city of Yasuj in Isfahan province, said Mohammad Tabatabai, director of public relations for the airline. The plane crashed into Dena mountain, part of the Zagros range, around 23 kilometres from Yasuj, some 500 kilometres south of the capital, he told state broadcaster IRIB. "After searches in the area, unfortunately we were informed that the plane crashed. Unfortunately, all our dear ones lost their lives in this incident," said Tabatabai. The plane was carrying 60 passengers, including one child, as well as six crew, he added. A helicopter sent by Iran's national emergency services was unable to land at the site of the accident due to severe weather, its spokesman said. RaJ: Death toll in Beawar cylinder blast reaches 18

The death toll in an LPG cylinder blast during a wedding function on Friday night in Beawar town of Ajmer district rose to 18 with the recovery of nine more bodies today, police said. Of the 18 injured, six were discharged, whereas five persons, said to be critical, were referred to Jaipur from the JLN Hospital in Ajmer, they said. Nine more bodies were recovered today from the debris. With this the toll rose to 18. Two more are feared to be stuck under the debris, Ajmer District Collector Gaurav Goyal said. He said a joint rescue-and-relief operation by the Army and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was underway. Commercial plane crashes in southern Iran, killing 66 people

An Iranian commercial plane crashed today in a foggy, mountainous region of southern Iran, killing all 66 people on board, state media reported. An Aseman Airlines ATR-72, a twin-engine turboprop used for short-distance regional flying, went down near its destination of the southern Iranian city of Yasuj, some 780 kilometers south of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Bagdogra Airport set to clear visibility hurdle

The Bagdogra Airport in North Bengal is set to get a major boost with the commissioning of Category II Instrumental Landing System (CAT II ILS) from March 29, a top Airports Authority of India official said. Once the new system is in place, the airport will be able to operate flights even when the visibility is as low as 350 metres, the official said. Flight landings at the airport get affected round the year, especially in the mornings. At present, a minimum visibility of 1,200 metres is required for an aircraft to land at the airport, he added. The notification on the commissioning of CAT II ILS at Bagdogra Airport was issued by AAI headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday. Huge fire at Tibet's revered temple sparks fears of its future

A major fire broke out at one of Tibet's holiest Buddhist temples, Jokhang Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the capital Lhasa with a history of more than 1,300 years. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to family members of those killed in an LPG cylinder blast in Rajasthan's Beawar town, which has claimed nine lives so far. Two dead in France factory explosion

Dieppe (France), Feb 17 (AFP) Two maintenance workers were killed when an explosion followed by a fire ripped through a vegetable oil refinery in the French coastal city of Dieppe today. The cause of the blast in one of the oil tanks is not yet known, according to the local prefecture and the company that runs the plant, but a police investigation has been launched. A team of 40 firefighters, police and rescuers were at the site of the Saipol factory, where the explosion unleashed huge flames and a large column of smoke. Speeding car hits divider, overturns in Delhi; 2 killed

A speeding car in northwest Delhi's Mukundpur today hit a road divider and overturned, leaving the driver and a passenger dead, police said.. The accident occurred around 2 pm at Mukundpur Chowk. Eye witnesses, who alerted the police about the incident, said the car was moving at a "very high speed", according to a senior police officer. The driver had apparently lost control of the vehicle, which hit the divider, overturned and dragged for several metres, he said. The deceased have been identified as Manoj, 26, resident of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, and Rakesh, 23, of Delhi's Mukundpur, the officer said. Manoj was driving the car to Bhalaswa area of the city. Both the persons were rushed to a hospital but died, the police said.
