Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief at the loss of lives in an earthquake in Morocco and said India is ready to offer all possible assistance to it in this difficult time. Powerful earthquakes rock Indonesia's Bali, Java islands, no casualties

A powerful earthquake and an aftershock rocked Indonesia's resort island of Bali and other parts of the country on Tuesday, causing panic but no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 7.1 earthquake was centred 181 kilometers northeast of Gili Air, a tiny island near the coast of Lombok Island, next to Bali, at a depth of 513.5 kilometers. Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami but warned of possible aftershocks. The agency put a preliminary magnitude at 7.4. Variations in early measurements are common. A 5.4 magnitude aftershock hit the same area a few minutes later just before dawn. Japan to release Fukushima plant's treated water to sea as early as Thurs

The Japanese government announced Tuesday the treated and diluted radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant will be released into the ocean as early as Thursday. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida gave the final go-ahead at a meeting of Cabinet ministers involved in the plan and instructed the operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, to be ready to start the release Thursday if weather permits. The water release begins nearly 12 and half years after the March 2011 nuclear meltdowns caused by a massive earthquake and tsunami. Japanese fisheries groups have opposed the plan out of worry of further damage to the reputation of their seafood. Groups in China and South Korea have also raised concern, making it a political and diplomatic issue. Mild intensity earthquake hits Rajouri in J-K; no damage reported

An earthquake of 3.6 magnitude struck Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Thursday, but there was no report of any damage, officials said. The epicentre of the tremor, which occurred at 3.49 am, was the mountainous areas of Rajouri, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers below the surface, at a latitude of 33.33 degrees north and a longitude of 74.20 degrees, it said.

Earthquake of 5.4 magnitude jolts Meghalaya, northern parts of Bangladesh

An earthquake of 5.4 magnitude hit Meghalaya and the northern region of Bangladesh on Monday evening, officials said here. There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property, they said. The earthquake took place at 8.19 pm, and the location was 49 km south-east of Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya, the National Center for Seismology said. The depth of the quake was 16 km, it said. "The epicentre was in Bangladesh, close to Dawki area of West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya," said an official of the Regional Seismological Centre here. The tremor was felt in all districts of Meghalaya and also in parts of Assam and West Bengal. "We have not received any report of loss of life or damage to property," said an official of the disaster management authority here. The northeastern states fall in the high seismic zone, and earthquakes frequently hit the region.

Tremors jolt Delhi, parts of north India; Kejriwal hopes everyone is safe

A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan which shook parts of north India, including the national capital, on Saturday night. The temblor hit the mountainous regions of Afghanistan at 9:31 pm and residents of the national capital region felt the tremors soon after. "The quake hit twice at around 9:30 pm," said Preeti Shankar, who resides in a high-rise apartment in Noida on the eastern fringes of the national capital. The epicentre of the earthquake was located at 36.38 degrees north on the latitude and 70.77 degrees east on the longitude in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, the National Centre for Seismology said. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a tweet, said, "Earthquake tremors have also been felt in Delhi. Hope everyone is safe." "Hey Delhi people, We hope you all are safe! Kashmir struck by 3 earthquakes in one day, no reports of any damage

An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter Scale struck Kashmir Saturday evening, officials said. There were no reports of any damage. The earthquake that took place at 9.31 pm had its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, officials said. The quake hit at the latitude of 36.38 degrees north and longitude of 70.77 degrees east at the depth of 181 km, officials said. This was the third quake to hit J&K in the day.
