The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Wednesday announced the results and scorecard of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test, NEET 2019.Nalin Khandelwal, of Rajasthan, bagged 701 out of 720 marks to be all India topper. Bhavik Bansal of Delhi secured the second position while Akshat Kaushik from Uttar Pradesh secured the third position."I am very happy at securing the first rank. I used to study for eight hours every day. Rajouri: Bunker built in govt school for children's safety

As part of the government's initiative to provide bunkers for civilians near border areas, a government school in Kalsian area of the district has got a bunker which can be used for running classes when shelling leads to closure of schools.Many schools fall near border areas in Noushera and Manjakote sectors of Rajouri district. With the construction of bunkers, students can continue to study safely inside the bunkers during cross-border firing.Renu Chodhary, a teacher at Government Primary School, Simbal Camp Kalsian said, "Previously the school would be unsafe due to firing. Parents lost trust and most were shifting to cities. Now, when the government has made these bunkers, we can immediately move and run classes whenever there is some disturbance. Over 2 lakh students register on DU's website for admissions to undergraduate courses

Over 2.14 lakh students have registered on the Delhi University's website for admissions to undergraduate courses till Tuesday, the varsity said. The university started registrations on May 30 for undergraduate courses and the admission process will end on June 14. The first cut-off list is likely to be released on June 20, second cut-off list will be out on June 25 and the third will be released on June 29. The fourth and fifth cut-off lists will be out on July 4 and July 9, respectively. Till now, 2,14,322 students have registered and 1,15,999have made payments, the varsity said. Out of the total number of registrations, 73,363 aspirants are from the unreserved category, 20,317 from other backward classes, 16,815 from scheduled castes, 3,379 from scheduled tribes and 2,142 from the economically weaker section (EWS). JNU student alleges entrance exam paper leak

A Jawaharlal Nehru University student has written to vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar, alleging that an entrance exam paper was leaked. "Submitted a letter to Vice Chancellor and Controller of examination JNU demanding an enquiry into the suspicion among the JNUEE candidates that the entrance question paper Cluster 1 of 28th May 2019 was leaked," the student, Vishnu Prasad, said in a Facebook post on Monday. Prasad, who is from the School of International Studies of the university, said the exam paper of Russian, Spanish, French and German were found to be circulating on WhatsApp. This time, the entrance exams are being held online for the first time. Prepare action plan for integrated development of Indian languages: HRD minister asks officials

HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' Tuesday directed ministry officials to prepare an action plan on developing various Indian languages in an integrated manner. During a review meeting with senior ministry officials, Pokhriyal also highlighted the importance of quality education and the need to create as many vocational courses as possible in order to push the youth into the employment stream without delay, an official statement said. He also advised the officers to set up a definite target of employment generation through such courses and to customise them region-wise by providing proper linkages with industry and trade, plus other employment opportunities available in that particular region. Delhi govt issues heatwave advisory for students

In view of the prevailing heat, the Delhi government has issued an advisory for school students and discontinued the summer sports and yoga coaching camps for them. The advisory directed the heads of all government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools under the Directorate of Education (DoE) to sensitise the students regarding heatwave-related illnesses in the morning assembly or in classrooms by the nodal teachers, designated to carry out activities related to raising awareness on heatwave-related illnesses in schools. "Keep yourself updated regarding the local weather forecast to know if a heatwave is on the way in the coming days by means of radio, TV, newspaper etc. Even if you are not thirsty, you should drink sufficient water as often as possible, especially while working outside under high temperature," the advisory said. Students can produce equivalence certificate if their subjects are not in list accepted by DU

Students from other boards who feel that a subject they studied has a similar syllabus to that of NCERT and is not in the list accepted by the Delhi University can produce an equivalence certificate from their board, officials said Tuesday. This year, the DU's admissions committee has mapped different subjects from various state boards that have different nomenclature but same curriculum as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) subjects, which are considered standard by the varsity. Some of these subjects are biochemistry, which is taught by the Jammu and Kashmir Board but is similar to biology, civics which is a subject under the Uttar Pradesh Board. Earlier, students from other boards would face 2.5 per cent deduction in marks since these subjects would fall under the category of vocational subjects, but this year students will not lose out on marks. However, if a student finds that the subject he or she studied in his or her respective board is similar to the NCERT class .

Three students drown in river during school picnic in Mizoram

Three school students on Tuesday drowned while swimming in a river in central Mizoram's Serchhip district, a police officer said. The three were students of Baktawng Higher Secondary School and they drowned in river Tuirial during a school picnic, the police officer said. The deceased were identified as Vanlalhruaii and Lalthanzauva, both students of class 12 and Lalthanfela, a class 11 student, he said. The bodies were brought to Baktawng village for post- mortem examination, the police officer said, adding, the funeral services will be held on Wednesday.

HC seeks reply from Centre, BSF on Polytechnic STS employees' plea for regularisation

The Delhi High Court has asked the Centre and the BSF to respond to a plea by 30 employees of Polytechnic, Signal Training School who have sought regularisation of their services so that they can be relocated to other centres following the closure the branch in the capital. A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notice to the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF Director General, BSF Education Fund and BSF Polytechnic, Signal Training School (STS), on two limited prayers in the petition. It said that in the meantime, considering that the 30 petitioners have been serving the authorities in the polytechnic institutes for long years, they may explore the possibility of accommodating them in the other institutes being run by BSF. Streamline entire education system, SC tells state & central govts

The entire education system of the country should be streamlined so that students do not have to face stress while seeking admissions to various courses, the Supreme Court said Tuesday. Taking note of "plight of students" due to uncertainty over admissions to post graduate medical and dental courses in the academic year 2019-20 in Maharashtra, the apex court said such a situation is difficult for the meritorious students. "Our anxiety is for the students. This happens every year and there is uncertainty in the mind of students with regard to admissions in medical or other courses," a vacation bench comprising Justices Indu Malhotra and M R Shah said while hearing the Maharashtra medical admission matter. SC asks Maharashtra to conduct final counselling for admissions to PG medical, dental courses

Coming down heavily on the Maharashtra government for the problems being faced by students in admissions to post graduate medical and dental courses in the 2019-20 academic year, the Supreme Court Tuesday directed it to conduct the final round of counselling by June 14. The court questioned the state for not conducting any counselling after the apex court's order stayed the notification to grant 10 per cent reservation in the admissions for 2019-20 to economically weaker sections (EWS) in PG medical and dental courses. A vacation bench of Justices Indu Malhotra and M R Shah directed the state to issue advertisements in local newspapers having wide publication for counselling for admission in the current academic year and also to specify that it would be the "final round of counselling".
