Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday ordered free re-verification of answer sheets of all the intermediate students who failed in the examinations.
Medhali Sandeep Redkar, a student of Mumbai-based Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, has been selected for the 30th Summer Universiade 2019 to be held at Napoli in Italy in July this year, a release said on Wednesday. The Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College (LTMMC) is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) in Nashik. MUHS Vice Chancellor Dr Dilip Mhaisekar and others felicitated Redkar on Wednesday. Redkar, a student of physiotherapy branch, had earlier participated in All-India Inter-university Swimming (women) tournaments in one metre and three metres diving springboard sports and won two gold medals. The Universiade is a multidisciplinary sport event addressed to university students from all over the world. For relevance and number of participants, Summer Universiade is just second to Olympic Games and it is considered more important than Winter Olympic Games. The event will be held between July 3 and 14.
Two more intermediate students in Telangana on Wednesday committed suicide, taking the number to 10 since the results were declared last week, even as protests continued over the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TBIE) goof-ups.
The results for the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) in February-March will be declared on April 30. GBSHSE chairman Ramakrishna Samant Wednesday said the results would be out at 11 a.m on April 30, and the statement of grades/marks of HSSC examination will be issued the same day between 11.30 a.m to 1.30 p.m. A total of 17,893 students had appeared for the examination held between February 28 and March 26.

As many as 97 schoolteachers were found absent from duty during surprise checks in the district, officials said Wednesday. District Magistrate (DM) Ajay Shanker Pandey told reporters that 35 officials were asked to conduct the surprise checks. They raided a number of schools in the district on Tuesday. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union Tuesday alleged that the varsity is trying to take away the jobs of several washermen by bringing a commercial laundry service. However, sources said the administration has plans to bring a laundry service but no deadline has been set. "In the JNU, there are many washermen who from ages are providing washing and other cloth-related services to students. This is a calculated ploy to snatch away their jobs and livelihood," the JNUSU alleged. The university administration, however, said the washermen are not employed with the varsity. It also said the students will have the option of using the services of laundry or washermen. "These washermen have been staying in the campus for long and even their families are staying here. We will not remove these washermen. The commercial laundry service will be for about 1,000 families staying in the campus, not only for the students," said a varsity official.

The Delhi High Court has asked the AAP government to give admission to 130 students, which was denied on various grounds, including lack of Aadhaar, in government schools here. A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice A J Bhambhani sought a response of the AAP government on an NGO's petition seeking direction to grant admission to 130 students in government schools here. According to the petition, these children were denied admission or readmission in schools on "flimsy" grounds, including address proof, lack of Aadhaar, transfer certificate, age and seats full. The court asked the government to grant admission to students within one week or give reasons for non-admission and listed the matter for further hearing on May 9.
