Online essay competition in the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Bihar

Purnea Lok Sabha Vikas Parishad (PLSVP) is going to organise a multilingual essay competition for school and college students of Bihar.This will be an online competition in which every student from the state could participate.Essay competition will begin accepting entries from 8:00 am on October 2nd, 2018 (Gandhi Jayanti). The entries will be accepted until midnight of October 19th, 2018. Some IPS officers working for TMC govt in WB, will not be spared: Ghosh

Blaming police action for the death of two students during a protest in Islampur, West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday alleged that some IPS officers were working for the Trinamool Congress government and warned that they would "not be spared". Ghosh alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government was trying to impose Urdu language in schools in the state and asserted that such attempts would be resisted. "We respect all languages but we will not allow imposition of Urdu," he said. The two students were killed when protesters clashed with the police on Thursday over recruitment of a Urdu teacher at Daribhita High School in North Dinajpur district, police had said. NCPCR asks WB chief secy to conduct probe into clash in North Dinajpur district

Taking suo motu cognisance of the clash in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district in which two students died, apex child rights body NCPCR on Tuesday asked the state's chief secretary to conduct a probe into the matter. Yashwant Jain, a member of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), expressed "serious concern" over the matter and asked if violence was necessary and sanctioned by relevant authorities. A mob clashed with police over entry of newly appointed Urdu teachers in Daribhita School in North Dinajpur's Islampur as the protesting students said they needed science and english teachers. One student killed, six injured as ceiling plaster falls on

A six-year-old student of standard one died and six others were injured in Bettiah town Tuesday when chunks of ceiling plaster of their school fell on them in Bihar's West Champaran district. The plaster fell on the students when classes were on at the private school in Bettiah town area, superintendent of police Jayant Kant said. There were around 25-30 students in the class when the ceiling plaster fell, he said. The injured school children were rushed to MJK Medical college where one of them succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, Kant said. The dead child has been identified as Vaibhav Kumar Raj, he said. The school management tried to conceal evidence at the occurrence site for which an FIR would be lodged and action will be taken against it after the inquiry. Stanza Living raises Rs 73 cr from Sequoia India, others

Student accommodation startup Stanza Living Tuesday said it has raised Rs 73 crore in funding, led by Sequoia India with participation from existing investors Matrix and Accel Partners. The two investors invested Rs 13 crore in November last year. "We will use the funding to strengthen three key pillars of our business - technology, people and network of operations. We will also leverage the funding to expand to newer cities like Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad as well as locations that are education hubs, in the next 12-18 months," Stanza Living co-founder and Managing Director Anindya Dutta told PTI. HC adjourns by 1 day PIL seeking withdrawal of Wednesday's BJP bandh

The Calcutta High Court Tuesday adjourned by a day the hearing of a PIL seeking direction to the BJP to withdraw its West Bengal bandh call on Wednesday to protest the killing of two students in North Dinajpur district. A division bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice Debasish Kar Gupta adjourned the hearing as lawyers from the other side were not present in the court owing to the death of a senior lawyer. UP: 25 NCC cadets hospitalized due to food poisoning

Twenty-five National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets were admitted to a hospital here on Monday night allegedly due to food poisoning."There was an NCC camp going on in the KP College. Around 500 students, above ninth standard, participated in it. Today we got complaints of diarrhoea and dehydration from a few students. Inquiry against DU college principal over irregularities

The governing body of a Delhi University college has initiated inquiry against its principal over alleged financial and administrative irregularities, and directed him to proceed on indefinite leave. The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration on Monday accused the Students' Union of trying to "misinform and misguide students and creating an ambience of fear and discomfort in the campus". Prez to inaugurate IISF-2018 on October 6

The fourth edition of India International Science Festival (IISF) will be inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind in Lucknow on October 6, Union minister Harsh Vardhan said Monday. The IISF-2018, to be held from October 5 to 8, is expected to be attended by around 10,000 delegates, including 5,000 students, 550 teachers and 200 students from north-east region, besides 20 international delegates and 200 startups, he said. DU to verify DUSU prez's admission documents

The Delhi University's Department of Buddhist Studies will verify the documents of DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya, accused of submitting fake documents for admission, as well as that of 202 students enrolled with it, an official said. The department held a meeting Monday after receiving complaints about Baisoya and decided to get the verification done of the documents submitted by all the students enrolled with it. Budgetary allocation for interest-free edu loans to be hiked: Javadekar

The Union government will increase its annual allocation for interest-free loans to students and digitalise over 15 lakh classrooms as part of its resolve to ensure quality education in the country, said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar Monday. The annual budget to provide interest-free loans to 10 lakh students would be increased to Rs 2,200 crore in next three years, said Union Minister for Human Resource Development Javadekar, addressing the 2nd Higher Education Human Resource Conclave here. Harvard prof asks MCI to replace classroom use of animals with simulation technology

A Harvard professor has written to the Medical Council of India (MCI), urging it to replace the "cruel classroom use of animals" with cutting-edge simulation technology, animal rights body PETA said Monday. Class IX student sodomised by a classmate and his accomplice: Police

A Class IX student of a Delhi government schooL has alleged that he was sodomised by two boys, including a classmate, inside a school, police said Monday. Based on a complaint filed by the victim on September 20, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, police said. "We have received a complaint and a case has been registered. We are probing the matter," Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said.
