Authorities in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to release the salary of the teaching staff in government-run educational institutes only after submission of attendance certificates duly signed by parents of students and the local sarpanch. The order by District Development Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana is aimed to keep a close vigil on the functioning of educational institutes, officials said Tuesday. They said the order was issued following complaints that the teaching staff of several schools were not attending duties regularly. "The salary of the teaching staff of the educational institutions shall be drawn subject to the production of the attendance certificate duly signed by at least 10 parents (on rotational basis) of the students studying in that particular educational institution and duly counter signed by the sarpanch of the concerned panchayat while producing the bill to the concerned treasuries," the officials said quoting the order. Delhi University has extended the last date for registrations for PG,MPhil and PhD courses till June 22, officials said Monday. The Delhi High Court had directed the varsity to extend the last date for registration to June 22 for undergraduate courses and to follow last year's eligibility criteria for admission. However,the varsity Monday said the registration portal will remain open for all UG, PG, M.Phil. and PhD courses till June 22. The last date has been extended for all courses,an official said. Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta Monday urged Delhi University to extend the last date of registration for admission under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category by 15 days. Gupta made the demand to ensure poor students belonging to the generally category can also apply for admission under the EWS category, according to a statement. He said that though the central government had issued the notification for 10 per cent reservation in admission for the general category poor on January 19, the Delhi government issued a notification only on June 4. "It is a matter of concern as the registration for admission to Delhi University will close on June 22," the statement quoted Gupta as saying. The BJP leader discussed the matter with DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh K Tyagi who said he would take it up with the dean concerned.

The Supreme Court Monday asked the Centre to make its stand clear on whether it can extend the date for counselling for admissions in post- graduate medical courses for 400-500 seats in deemed universities and private colleges. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Monday directed officials of the Basic and Secondary Education Department to not hold files for more than three days otherwise strict action will be initiated against them. He asked the officials to form 'Shiksha Seva Ayog' for recruitment of teachers. Adityanath was holding a review meeting with the officials of the state's Basic and Secondary Education Department. "If any file stays for more than three days in the departments, strict action will be taken against the officer concerned," he told the officials, reprimanding them for the delay in providing textbooks, bags and uniforms to children. The Kerala High Court Monday stayed the state government's decision to implement recommendations of the Khader Committee report, which proposes single directorate for the education sector. Justice P V Asha stayed the government's decision to bring the Directorate of Public Instruction, Higher Secondary Directorate and Vocational Higher Secondary Directorate under the Directorate of General Education, while considering a batch of writ petitions filed by the Nair Service Society (NSS) and others. Appreciating the plea that the integration offends the provisions of Kerala Education Rules, the high court stayed all further proceedings undertaken by the government pursuant to the Khader Committee report. The decision to implement the report was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last month. It was also decided to implement the suggestions of the report in phases. The Khader Commission report recommends upgrading the professional qualification of teachers .

Four stray cows, locked inside a school campus shut for the annual summer vacation by farmers to keep them away from their crops, died due to hunger in Shamli district, police said Monday. Eight cows were locked inside the government-run school campus in Karonda Hathi village a few days ago by some farmers. Police said four of them were found dead on Sunday and others have been rescued. A case has been registered against unidentified people. The schools had been closed for summer vacation.
