Govt teachers to get salary only after getting 'attendance certificate' in J&K's Kishtwar
Authorities in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to release the salary of the teaching staff in government-run educational institutes only after submission of attendance certificates duly signed by parents of students and the local sarpanch. The order by District Development Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana is aimed to keep a close vigil on the functioning of educational institutes, officials said Tuesday. They said the order was issued following complaints that the teaching staff of several schools were not attending duties regularly. "The salary of the teaching staff of the educational institutions shall be drawn subject to the production of the attendance certificate duly signed by at least 10 parents (on rotational basis) of the students studying in that particular educational institution and duly counter signed by the sarpanch of the concerned panchayat while producing the bill to the concerned treasuries," the officials said quoting the order. NASA funds programme to produce videos to teach Hindi through Indian scientific innovations
A programme funded by NASA in the US has produced a series of videos about famous archaeological sites and institutions in India along with lesson plans in Hindi to teach the language internationally in the context of science and technology. The videos focus on scientific innovations at various sites like Amer Fort palace and Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, the rust-resistant Iron Pillar of Delhi, UNESCO Heritage site Qutub Minar, the Chand Bawri step well and headquarters of the Jaipur Foot, a prosthetic given free to impoverished amputees in 80 countries across the world. The NASA-funded programme STARTALK, which makes it a priority issue for national security to expand the teaching and learning of Hindi, Arabic, Chinese and other world languages, made a USD 90,000 grant to Ved Chaudhary, director of the project. The programme is supplemented by funding from Chaudhary's New Jersey-based foundation Educators' Society for Heritage of India. The programme is administered by the National Foreign .

Kerala govt honours 21 school dropout transgenders for passing class 10, 12 exams
As many as 21 school dropouts transgenders were honoured by Kerala government for passing examinations equivalent to class 10 and 12, here on Monday.The transgenders were facilitated by Kerala education minister Prof C Ravindranath at an event organised by Kerala Saksharath mission, the organisation which helped the school dropout transgenders complete their study.The organisation organised classed on second Saturdays and Sundays of each month for them in order to help them continue their studies."I had to drop my studies for some reason. When I decided to appear in 10 examinations, I was not confident but it is the support of Saksharatha Mission workers which helped me pass the exam. DU extends last date for registration for PG, MPhil, PhD courses till June 22
Delhi University has extended the last date for registrations for PG,MPhil and PhD courses till June 22, officials said Monday. The Delhi High Court had directed the varsity to extend the last date for registration to June 22 for undergraduate courses and to follow last year's eligibility criteria for admission. However,the varsity Monday said the registration portal will remain open for all UG, PG, M.Phil. and PhD courses till June 22. The last date has been extended for all courses,an official said. He said this has been done to provide equal opportunity to all the candidates.

Delhi BJP urges DU to extend last date of registration to benefit general category poor
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta Monday urged Delhi University to extend the last date of registration for admission under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category by 15 days. Gupta made the demand to ensure poor students belonging to the generally category can also apply for admission under the EWS category, according to a statement. He said that though the central government had issued the notification for 10 per cent reservation in admission for the general category poor on January 19, the Delhi government issued a notification only on June 4. "It is a matter of concern as the registration for admission to Delhi University will close on June 22," the statement quoted Gupta as saying. The BJP leader discussed the matter with DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh K Tyagi who said he would take it up with the dean concerned.
67 underprivileged children get admission in government schools under Operation Mukti Abhiyan
Sixty-seven children who were earlier into beggary have been admitted to government schools under 'Operation Mukti Abhiyan,' a campaign of the state police.With the motto of 'Bhiksha Nahi, Shiksha,' the campaign attempts to motivate children and their families to choose education over begging. Attempts have also been made to improve the financial condition of the parents of these children.In the first phase of this campaign, which started on May 1, the focus was primarily on Dehradun district.In the first phase, the police identified 292 children who were begging in the district and in the second phase they visited them in a bid to persuade them to get themselves enrolled in the schools.Officials also urged their family members to further motivate them to not indulge in beggary. Extension of deadline for PG medical seats: SC asks Centre to make its stand clear
The Supreme Court Monday asked the Centre to make its stand clear on whether it can extend the date for counselling for admissions in post- graduate medical courses for 400-500 seats in deemed universities and private colleges. The Centre informed the top court that it could not find any amicable solution to the problem as directed by it. A bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Surya Kant asked Additional Solicitor General Vikramjeet Banerjee, appearing for Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Centre, to make its stand clear by way of affidavit. Adityanath directs education dept officials to not hold files for more than 3 days
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Monday directed officials of the Basic and Secondary Education Department to not hold files for more than three days otherwise strict action will be initiated against them. He asked the officials to form 'Shiksha Seva Ayog' for recruitment of teachers. Adityanath was holding a review meeting with the officials of the state's Basic and Secondary Education Department. "If any file stays for more than three days in the departments, strict action will be taken against the officer concerned," he told the officials, reprimanding them for the delay in providing textbooks, bags and uniforms to children. Ker HC stays govt decision to bring state education under single directorate
The Kerala High Court Monday stayed the state government's decision to implement recommendations of the Khader Committee report, which proposes single directorate for the education sector. Justice P V Asha stayed the government's decision to bring the Directorate of Public Instruction, Higher Secondary Directorate and Vocational Higher Secondary Directorate under the Directorate of General Education, while considering a batch of writ petitions filed by the Nair Service Society (NSS) and others. Appreciating the plea that the integration offends the provisions of Kerala Education Rules, the high court stayed all further proceedings undertaken by the government pursuant to the Khader Committee report. The decision to implement the report was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan last month. It was also decided to implement the suggestions of the report in phases. The Khader Commission report recommends upgrading the professional qualification of teachers .

Language-savvy parents are not only more likely to have children with higher reading scores but are also more attentive when kids read out loud to them, according to a study. Young children learning to read and write English often need to identify patterns in words to be able to read and spell them, said researchers from Concordia University in Canada. For example, knowing the "Magic E" syllable pattern can allow a child to understand why an E at the end of a word like "rate" significantly alters the word's sound from "rat." Parents who understand such language complexity -- known as reading-related knowledge -- are able to spot the difficulties and explain them, researchers said. They also tend to pass on those skills when they listen to their children read, which in turn helps reading development. Four stray cows found dead in school shut for summer vacation
Four stray cows, locked inside a school campus shut for the annual summer vacation by farmers to keep them away from their crops, died due to hunger in Shamli district, police said Monday. Eight cows were locked inside the government-run school campus in Karonda Hathi village a few days ago by some farmers. Police said four of them were found dead on Sunday and others have been rescued. A case has been registered against unidentified people. The schools had been closed for summer vacation.
