The Delhi government has agreed to release grants to 28 Delhi University colleges funded by it despite them not having their governing bodies. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had written a letter on April 16 to the Secretary, Higher Education, stating that no funds should be given to 28 colleges (fully or partially-funded by them) till they form their governing bodies. The issue of formation of governing bodies led to an impasse between Delhi University and the city government, with both accusing each other of delaying the process. However,Sisodia directed the Education Secretary to ensure that funds are released to the 28 colleges. Delhi University has repeatedly made attempts to stall the functioning of the 28 Delhi government funded college, Sisodia said. "DUTA has approached us regarding the hardship being faced by the teachers due to stopping of grants to these colleges. Since we do not want teachers to bear these hardship, the Directorate of Higher Education should release .
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a certificate programme in yoga that would commence from July session,the varsity said Sunday. IGNOU's School of Health Sciences (SOHS) launched the programme under which the learner shall understand the basic principles and practice of yoga. The varsity said the programme also aims to make those who pursue the course aware about the history and the contribution of various yogis in the field of yoga and attain both physical and mental health through yoga. A student who has passed Class XII from any recognized board is eligible for the programme. The medium of instruction will be English and the minimum duration of course is six months. The programme will be offered through regional centres of Delhi, Dehradun, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Ladnun, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune and will have three courses with 16 credits.

The Bihar government on Saturday said all schools in the city will remain closed till June 19 in view of the prevailing weather condition. Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi said all government and private schools of Patna will remain shut till June 19, due to persisting heatwave-like condition for the past several days, an official release said. A number of private schools were scheduled to open in the week starting June 17 after the summer vacation. This is the second time the district administration has extended suspension of academic activities in schools due to the weather. Earlier on June 9, the DM had ordered closure of schools till June 16.

Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla Saturday directed all private schools in the state to not coerce parents to buy books and uniforms from particular shops. The sale of uniforms and books within school premises has also been prohibited. The directives, meant for all private schools affiliated to the CBSE, ICSE and the Punjab School Education Board, came after taking note of reports suggesting exploitation of parents of school children by certain private schools. The minister also directed that the uniform once introduced in schools should be carried on for at least three years and no change in the colour and design of the dress be introduced in that period. "The details pertaining to design, colour, texture, material etc. should be uploaded on the school website so that parents may buy ready-made uniform or get them tailor made as per their choice and resources," Singla said in an official release. It has also been made mandatory for school authorities to use approved books .
The education department here has sealed 15 private schools running without proper recognition from the government in the last three days, officials said Saturday. District educational Officer B Lingareddy in a statement said the department has beenconducting raids on such private schools for the last few days. The district authorities have imposed a penalty of Rs 8.30 lakh on 17 private schools for charging excessive fees from students, officials said Saturday. The maximum penalty of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on Jagran Public School, Noida, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration said in a statement. Rs 75,000 penalty was imposed on eight schools: CLM Public School, Gagan Public School, Greater Heights Public School, Dharm Public School (all four in Greater Noida), Grads International School, Shri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir, Karl Huber (all three in Noida) and SD Public School in Bhangel, it said. "Altogether a penalty of Rs 8.30 lakh was imposed on 17 schools following a decision of the District Fees Regulatory Committee under provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Fees Regulation Act for SelfFinanced Schools 2018," it said. A case was registered against Gujarat independent MLA Jignesh Mevani for allegedly sharing a fake video on social media and defaming a private school in Valsad through it, police said Saturday. Mevani, who represents Vadgam Assembly constituency, had on May 20 shared a video on his Twitter account, showing a half naked school student being beaten up by someone, which he claimed, was a teacher of Valsad-based RMVM School. Principal of the school, Vijal Kumari Patel, Thursday lodged a complaint against the legislator at Valsad town police station, saying the video that he circulated did not belong to her school and that he defamed her school and the teachers working there, an official of the police station said.
