A Chinese government's proposal of covering salaries of teachers in Nepal who teach Mandarin have prompted many private schools in the Himalayan kingdom to make it mandatory for students to learn the language, according to a media report. The move came at a time when the Chinese involvement in Nepal is surging, largely on the back of Beijing's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a project boycotted by India as it comprises the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) being laid through the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. As many as 66 children have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, officials said.A total of 55 patients died at Shri Krishna Medical College while 11 of them died in private Kejriwal hospital here. The Delhi High Court on Friday quashed the new eligibility criteria for admission in undergraduate courses to Delhi University.A division bench of the high court presided by Justices Anu Malhotra and Talwanat Singh allowed the batch of pleas challenging the varsity's new admission criteria.The court also directed the varsity to extend the last date of applying for admission to June 22. Till now, the last date was June 14.The bench further told DU that if they want to amend admission eligibility criteria then it has to issue a notice six month prior to admission.The petitioners claimed that a change in the eligibility criteria in B Com (Hons) and BA (Hons) in Economics is "illegal" and violates Article 14 of the Constitution, as it was done arbitrarily and without any prior notice.Replying on the pleas, the varsity defended its decision of amending the admission criteria and told the court that new admission norms were formed after holding discussions with the stakeholders and experts .
The DU is likely to release its first cut-off list by the end of this month as the Delhi High Court Friday directed the university to extend its registration date to June 22, officials said. The Delhi University's online registration process had commenced on May 30 and was supposed to end on June 14 at 11.59 pm. It was to release the first cut-off list on June 20. "We will have to study the order and make changes to the portal and other systems in place. The first cut-off was to be released on June 22 but now it will most likely come out by June 29 or 30. This would mean that the admission process will be delayed by 10 days," an official said. The Karnataka Cabinet Friday decided to amend the Karnataka Startup Policy 2015-2020 in line with the national policy. Claiming that Karnataka was the first State to bring in the startup policy, Rural development minister Krishna Byre Gowda said "the central policy is much detailed than the state policy. According to our policy to consider as startup, it should not have exceeded four years, while the central policy says 10 years. Our policy says the turnover should not exceed Rs 50 crore, while central policy limits at Rs 100 crore." The state government is amending its policy accordingly by including turnover limit and year limit that is there in the central policy, he told reporters after the cabinet meeting. Also approved was the 'Chief Minister Grameena Sumarga' programme to maintain priority village roads in the state in a good motorable condition. For this programme using a scientific method, 24,246 kms are selected as priority village roads based on the criteria .

A bench of Justices Anu Malhotra and Talwant Singh extended the deadline from June 14 to June 22 for students to apply for the undergraduate courses in DU. With these two directions, the high court disposed of three petitions, two PILs and a plea by a student, challenging the recent amendment made to the eligibility criteria for 2019-20 for admissions to several UG courses, including B.Com (Hons) and BA (Hons) Economics, which require that Maths be part of the best of four subjects. The court, in its 17-page order, said these directions will not preclude DU from making changes to the eligibility criteria in the forthcoming year to its UG courses as required. The initial phase of the in-classroom training programme is being rolled out across 227 ITIs in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar and Assam, targeting more than 1,00,000 youth. Almost 15 lakh ITI students can access digital learning module through Bharat Skills portal.
