TMC delegation to visit EC over RP Act 'violation' in Gokhale's arrest

A five-member TMC parliamentary delegation will visit the Election Commission of India on Monday to raise the alleged violation of the Representation of the People Act in connection with party spokesperson Saket Gokhale's arrest. The party said the delegation will comprise Lok Sabha lawmakers Saugata Roy and Kalyan Banerjee, and Rajya Sabha members Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Mausam Noor and Derek O'Brien. Earlier, the TMC had sent a memorandum to the Election Commission, urging it to order an immediate probe into the action initiated by the Gujarat Police against Gokhale and to put an end to all the alleged physical and mental harassment being inflicted upon him. The TMC has alleged that Gokhale was charged under section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 which relates to promoting enmity between classes in connection with an election. EC tries to sponsor match between deaf cricket team with mainstream teams

The Election Commission on Friday said it will explore the possibility of sponsoring a match between the Indian deaf cricket association team with mainstream teams. On the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the poll panel felicitated the Indian deaf cricket team here. Welcoming the team, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said the Election Commission salutes the resilience and tenacity demonstrated by the players. The team has brought laurels to the country by winning the T20 Champions Trophy held in UAE by Deaf International Cricket Council. Kumar felt it is important to accord due publicity and visibility to the winners. BJP got Rs 614.53 cr as contributions, Congress Rs 95.46 cr: EC data

The ruling BJP received Rs 614.53 crore as contributions, more than six times the funds garnered by the opposition Congress during fiscal year 2021-22. The Congress received funds to the tune of Rs 95.46 crore, according to Election Commission data. The Trinamool Congress, which is in power in West Bengal, received Rs 43 lakh as contributions during the period while the CPI-M, which is in government in Kerala, received funds of Rs 10.05 crore. The West Bengal assembly polls were held in March-April, 2021. In Kerala too, assembly election were conducted in April, 2021. The four national parties had recently filed their latest contributions reports to the Election Commission which made the documents public on Tuesday. EC suspends poll officials in Karnataka amid allegations of voter fraud

The Election Commission on Friday directed officials for a review of the deletions and additions in the electoral rolls of three Assembly seats in Karnataka and ordered the suspension of two additional district election officials after allegations of "electoral fraud" in the state. The poll authority also directed the chief electoral officer to share a list of all deletions and additions made to the electoral rolls of the Shivajinagar, Chickpet and Mahadevapura Assembly seats after January 1, 2022 with all the recognised political parties so as to enable them to file claims and objections. The Election Commission directives came a day after the Congress petitioned the poll authority, seeking a detailed investigation into the "voter information theft fraud" in Karnataka.
