Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said the electric vehicle (EV) companies present in the meeting have unanimously agreed that they would no longer need subsidies once the existing subsidy regime ends. Stakeholders from the EV sector held deliberations with the minister here on issues pertaining to development of battery charging and swapping infrastructure. The minister also said that companies are free to choose their own business models. Whether they prefer to collaborate and share resources for battery swapping or sell vehicles with their own batteries, the decision is entirely up to them, he said. "Everybody was unanimous in the room that once the existing subsidy regime comes to an end, none of them requires the subsidy to grow further...Each sector has one or the other model which makes it self-sustaining and does not call for further subsidies," Goyal told reporters when asked about the views of companies on subsidies. BII to make Rs 650 cr in final tranche of investment on M&M's EV arm

Automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Monday said British International Investment Plc will make a final tranche investment of Rs 650 crore, as against earlier planned investment of Rs 725 crore, in its electric vehicles arm. Earlier this year in May, the company had intimated that it and British International Investment Plc (BII) have mutually agreed to extend the timeframe for the final tranche of BII's planned investment of Rs 725 crore in Mahindra Electric Automobile Ltd (MEAL) and would jointly assess whether additional investment is required by December 31, 2024, M&M said in a regulatory filing. In this connection, M&M said the company and BII have jointly assessed the funding requirement for MEAL on the basis of which it has been "mutually agreed that the final tranche of BII Group's (i.e. BII and/or BII India EV LLP) investment would be Rs 650 crore to be completed by March 31, 2025, as against earlier planned investment of Rs 725 crore". Motorcycle maker Ultraviolette to accelerate commercial operations in 2025

Electric premium motorcycle maker Ultraviolette is scaling up its commercial operations, targetting monthly sales of 1,000 units a month by the second half of 2025 while also gearing up to enter European and other international markets next year, according to top company officials. The company plans to increase its sales network to 30 cities next year from 12 cities at present, having put in place the technology base for its product and validated through real-world testing, Ultraviolette CTO and co-founder Niraj Rajmohan told PTI. "This year (2025) is where we are starting to scale up from a commercialisation point of view. The product and technology are very stable. It also gives us that ability to sustainably produce and be economically viable from a company operating standpoint," he said.
