Jacob Tremblay voicing lead in 'The Kid'

Child actor Jacob Tremblay is voicing the lead role in the animation sci-fi re-imagining of Charlie Chaplin's 1921 classic "The Kid". The 12-year-old actor is best known for his roles in the award-winning 2015 thriller "Room" and 2017's comedy "Wonder". "The Kid: An Animated Adventure" is directed by Christian Volckman who will co-write the script with Rupert Wyatt and Boris Starling, reported Empire magazine. The new film will revolve around Tremblay's character in a futuristic New York City which has been flooded and split vertically into two distinct regions. The young boy lives with his mother in safe and boring Uptown, however, runs away seeking adventure and winds up in the mysterious and dangerous Downtown where he encounters Chaplin, a robot with a human soul. Release date of the film has not been announced yet, but the rights will be on sale at the Cannes Film Market.

India could soon have more writers than readers: Ruskin Bond

India could soon be facing a predicament of having more writers than readers, feels iconic author Ruskin Bond. Bond also said the publishing industry in the country has developed and matured over the years, benefitting young writers. The 85-year-old author was in the city recently to launch 'myELSA', an English learning app for school students. "Publishing has come of age and more and more writers are making a good living out of it... But, I think with so many people writing now, there is a danger of having more writers than readers," he said in reply to a question on the present Indian literary scenario. "After all, we want people also to buy them (books)," the celebrated author told PTI. French actor Vincent Cassel is joining the cast of HBO's "Westworld" for the mind-bending science-fiction drama's third season, set to air next year, his team has told AFP -- his first recurring television role. The Tinseltown press first reported the casting news this week, with The Hollywood Reporter saying the 52-year-old Frenchman would be playing a villain. "Westworld" unfolds in a near-future amusement park of sorts, where guests interact with androids in various settings and anything goes. But gradually, some of the androids start fighting back. Dismissing reports of veteran actor Mumtaz's death, a family member said Friday the yesteryear star is fit and fine. There were reports on social media that the actor passed away Friday. NSUI Goa objects Akshay Kumar's appearance in govt's ad on road safety

The National Students' Union of India Goa (NSUI) on Friday wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging to remove actor Akshay Kumar from a government advertisement on road safety with a theme 'Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha'.The advertisement featuring Akshay Kumar was launched in 2018 to launch a 'Road Safety Awareness Programme' across the country.NSUI said that an Indian citizen has the right to be an ambassador and represent the government in its advertisements."With utmost seriousness, we object to this appearance of a Canadian citizen in a government advertisement with the theme "Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha" where Akshay Kumar is acting as a traffic policeman. Peter Mayhew, the towering actor who donned a huge, furry costume to give life to the rugged-and-beloved character of Chewbacca in the original "Star Wars" trilogy and two other films, has died, his family said Thursday. Mayhew died at his home in north Texas on Tuesday, according to a family statement. He was 74. No cause was given. Actress sexual assault case: SC stays trial against Malayalam actor Dileep

The Supreme Court Friday stayed the trial against Malayalam film actor Dileep, who is accused in the abduction and sexual assault of an actress in February 2017. A bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, which was hearing Dileep's plea seeking a copy of the digital evidence allegedly containing video footage of the purported crime, said it would hear the matter again in July. The apex court said the trial in the case will be stayed till it decide the issue. Dileep was arrested on July 10, 2017 and let out on bail by the Kerala High Court on October 3 same year. Seven other persons, including key accused 'Pulsar' Suni, were arrested in connection with the case. The actress, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu films, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on the night of February 17, 2017 and later escaped in a busy area.
