Facebook seeks tab to promote 'high quality news'

Facebook is working on a "news tab" that could be used to financially support "high quality and trustworthy" journalism, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday. Zuckerberg made the comments in a video conversation about the future of technology and society with Mathias Doepfner, chairman of German-based media giant Axel Springer. Zuckerberg said he sees interest in building a product separate from its personalized feed that would serve people who want news from professional media. "We want this to surface high quality and trustworthy information," Zuckerberg said in the video. "There's a lot of people who have a demand (for) more news." Zuckerberg said he believes as many as 10 to 15 per cent of Facebook users would be interested in a dedicated news tab. 'Drunk' TV actor driving car hits multiple vehicles in Mumbai

At least seven vehicles were damaged when a speeding car, driven by a TV actor, hit them at Santacruz here, police said. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday when Ruhi Shaileshkumar Singh, 30, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, dashed her car with other vehicles, a police official said. Four two-wheelers and three cars were damaged, but no one was injured, he said. A video of the incident has gone viral where Singh can be seen arguing with people who had gathered around her car. She is also seen accusing police of assaulting her. The official said a case has been registered against the actor and investigation was underway.

EC awaiting BJP's reply to Oppn's plea against release of biopic on PM

Before taking a call on whether to allow the release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Election Commission is awaiting the BJP's reply to an opposition parties' plea to prevent its screening amid the ongoing poll process. The producers of the film, which is slated for release on April 5, have already replied to the EC notice on the oppositions' complaint against the film. "Once the response from the BJP general secretary is received, the EC will take a decision," said a senior poll panel official Monday night. Since the complaint to the EC mentioned BJP in it, its copy was sent to the party for its reply. The official also referred to at least two Supreme Court rulings about movies. In one of the rulings, the SC had directed the West Bengal government to ensure that satirical film 'Bhobishyoter Bhoot', which was critical of the state chief minister, is screened without obstruction. BSP chief Mayawati and Jana Sena Party founder Pawan Kalyan, who formed an alliance for the Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh, would jointly address election meetings at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Hyderabad, the Jana Sena said Monday. They will campaign for the success of the nominees of Jana Sena, BSP and Left parties in Andhra Pradesh, it said in a release. Mayawati wouldreach Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday and address a joint media conference with Kalyan the next day, it said. They will address a public meeting at Vijayawada on Wednesday and address a rally at Tirupati on April 4. Renowned dramatist Kartik Rath dies

Eminent theatre organiser and playwright Kartik Chandra Rath passed away at his residence here following a brief illness on Monday, family sources said. He was 70 and is survived by wife and three children. Rath was ailing for past few days and breathed his last on Monday afternoon, they said. "People of the state will remember him for his unflinching dedication in organising single-handedly the annual International Theatre Festival and Theatre Olympiad here in the city for nearly 25 years without fail," said his childhood friend and music director Swarup Nayak. Recipient of Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi award and Odishi Sangeet Natak Akademi award, Rath has penned over hundred plays and directed over 500 plays in his career as a dramatist. His play "Bhagwan Jane Manisha" staged at the National Theatre festival in Allahabad way back in 1980s gave him an opening as a dramatist from where he scripted a passionate career as a dramatist.

Lee passed away on November 12 at 95, and Russo said "Endgame" has one of his final cameo appearances. "I wouldn't be standing here without him. I believe one of his final cameo is in 'Endgame.' I don't remember if he was well enough to do the Spider-Man cameo. But it was incredible," Russo said at the launch of the Hindi version of the Marvel Anthem composed by music maestro AR Rahman, who was also present at the event. Bombay HC rejects PIL to stay release of 'PM Narendra Modi'

In a major relief to the makers of 'PM Narendra Modi' biopic, the Bombay High Court on Monday disposed of the public interest litigation (PIL) filed to stay the film's release.The petitioner lawyer Tausif Sheikh told ANI: "We had filed a PIL against 'PM Narendra Modi.' In our PIL we have made 10 respondents, first is Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Censor Board of India, Election Commission of India and all the producers and actor of the film.""Accordingly, everyone appeared before the court and the Censor Board of India said that they have not certified the film yet. So the question of releasing it on April 5 doesn't arise," he said."They stated that they have only certified the trailer so that it has been released.
