Actor Nicole Richie has joined the cast of Fox comedy pilot "Richard Lovely" as series regular. The story revolves around Richard Lovely (Thomas Lennon), the disgruntled author of the best-selling children's book series, "Mr Mouse". He does not hate children, but rather just everything about them. After a publicity fiasco involving an unexpectedly savvy nine-year-old kid, Mr Mouse appears in Richard's real life as he is forced into an unlikely father/son relationship that will change his life forever. According to Variety, Richie will play Kelli, Richard's publicist. Her role was initially a recurring character but after a table read, the producers decided to make Richie a regular. The show, penned by Billy Finnegan, also features Wendie Malick, Nicole Sun, Mason Shneiderman, and Asif Ali.

Actor Laura Linney, Hannah Gross, and Terry Chen have joined the cast of Viggo Mortensen's family drama "Falling". The film, which marks Mortensen's directorial debut, is a story about a son's relationship with his aging father. Mortensen has penned the screenplay and is also producing the project, reported Variety. The Oscar-nominated actor will portray a man who lives with his male partner, played by Chen, and their adopted daughter in Southern California. Linney will play his sister and Gross will portray his mother. Lance Henriksen will play the father, a farmer whose attitudes and behaviour belong to a far more traditional era and family model. He goes to Los Angeles for an indefinite stay with his family as he deals with memory loss. "Falling" is produced by Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films and Chris Curling of Zephyr Films together with Mortensen.
Veteran actor Bill Nighy and "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald" star Callum Turner have boarded the cast of Focus Features' new adaptation of "Emma". The two actors join "Split" star Anya Taylor-Joy, who is taking on the titular role of Jane Austen's classic novel, the studio said in a statement. Austen's 1815 novel is a comedy of manners that follows young Emma Woodhouse meddling in others' romantic affairs in an attempt to play matchmaker. Nighy, 69, will portray Mr Woodhouse, Emma's father, in the project while Turner, 29, will play Frank Churchill. The film, to be directed by Autumn de Wilde, will also feature Mia Goth, Gemma Whelan, Miranda Hart, Josh O'Connor, Rupert Graves, Amber Anderson, and Tanya Reynolds. Eleanor Catton adapted the script from Austen's novel. Working Title's Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner as well as Blueprint Pictures' Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin are producing the project.

Filmmaker Macon Blair has been roped in to write and direct Legendary Pictures' "Toxic Avenger" reboot. The studio acquired the feature film rights to the 1984 original in December, reported Variety. The original comedy was set in the fictional town of Tromaville and centred on a mild-mannered janitor at a health club who's chased out a second story window by bullies and lands in a drum of toxic waste. The chemicals cause him to transform into the Toxic Avenger, who has superhuman size and strength and stands up to bullies and corruption. In an essay for The New Yorker, published online on Thursday, Clarke said the health scares began soon after the success of the first season of the HBO epic-fantasy drama. Visitors to the online encyclopedia's German section were greeted Thursday with a statement from Wikipedia authors urging them to contact EU lawmakers to try to stop the bill. The most controversial section would require companies such as YouTube and Facebook to take responsibility for copyrighted material that's uploaded to their platforms. Proponents say the new rules will help ensure that authors, artists and journalists are paid for their work. Opponents claim they could restrict freedom of speech, hamper online creativity and force websites to install filters that prevent uploading of copyrighted work.
