Court summons Ronnie Screwvala for copyright violation in upcoming film
A Delhi court Wednesday summoned film-maker Ronnie Screwvala as an accused on a plea alleging copyright violation in his upcoming film 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. Additional District Judge Gaurav Rao directed Screwvala and film's writer and director Aditya Dhar to appear before the court on January 3 on a civil complaint by an author of a book, seeking permanent injunction on the release of the film. The movie is scheduled to be released on January 11, 2019. The suit, filed by Nitin A Gokhale, alleged that the film was based on his book 'Securing India-The Modi Way, Pathankot, Surgical Strikes and more' and infringed the copyright as the contents of the book were used without taking his permission. The civil complaint, filed by advocate Neela Gokhale, has sought permanent injunction restraining the makers from screening the film without the author's consent and to delete the literary content of the book from the film. Following criticism for his reported comment that it "would be better if I was from Pakistan", singer Sonu Nigam on Wednesday said he has immense respect for global musicians, including Pakistani singers, but he wishes Indian artistes should be given same facilities as their foreign counterparts. Nigam was quoted as saying at a media summit over the weekend that sometimes he wishes he was from Pakistan so he would get more offers from India. "I have always been of the opinion that everyone should be welcomed in India. Poetry readers this year have been in the mood for kindness. The Academy of American Poets announced Wednesday that Naomi Shihab Nye's "Kindness" was the most popular work on poets.org. More than 250,000 people in 2018 clicked on to the poem, which features such lines as "It is only kindness that makes sense anymore, only kindness that ties your shoes." Nye, 66, said in a statement that she was inspired to write the poem after she was robbed on a bus in Colombia and a man, whom she remembered as an "Indian in a white poncho," was murdered. She praised a passing stranger who asked what happened and was thankful to have her pencil and notebook, and to be alive. Nye's books include "Transfer" and "Red Suitcase.

Nigam was quoted as saying at a media summit over the weekend that Malik, his long time friend, was accused without any proof and had maintained a dignified silence on the #MeToo allegations. Malayalam actress sexual assault case: Kerala HC dismisses actor Dileep's plea for CBI probe
The Kerala High Court Wednesday dismissed a plea filed by noted Malayalam actor Dileep, an accused in the case of abduction and sexual assault of an actress in February 2017, seeking a CBI probe into the case. Dismissing the plea, Justice Sunil Thomas observed that the allegations levelled by the actor need to be proved during trial in the sessions court. Police have investigated the case and filed the charge sheet. The trial of the case is going on, the court said and pointed out that no materials have been placed before it to warrant a CBI investigation. In his petition, Dileep alleged that the Special Investigation Team of Kerala police had carried out a "sham, unfair, biased, motivated and partisan investigation" in the case.
