The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking postponement of certain papers of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams scheduled for May on account of the Lok Sabha polls. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has not fixed the examination on election dates. It noted that the general elections to the Lok Sabha are to be held on May 7 and 13 and no exam has been scheduled for May 6 and May 12. Altering the examination date would disrupt the extensive arrangements already in place for the conduct of the examination and it could result in grave injustice for some students, it said. The third edition of the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate will be completed in seven days and there will be no normalisation of scores as all exams will be conducted in a single shift, the National Testing Agency announced on Saturday. For 15 subjects, tests will be in pen-paper mode and for the other 48 subjects the exam will be held in computer-based mode, it said. This year, over 13.4 lakh candidates have registered for the common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in 261 central, state, deemed and private universities, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will conduct examinations for foundation and intermediate courses three times in a year. Till now, the institute has been conducting these examinations twice a year. "The intermediate and foundation course examinations will be conducted thrice in a year in the month of January, May/June and September," ICAI said in a release on Friday. The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday announced the cancellation of the recently held examination to recruit police constables in the state. In a post on 'X', Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said orders have been issued to re-conduct the exam within six months. "There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who toy with the hard work of youngsters will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements," he said in Hindi. The examination was conducted on February 17 and 18.
Normalisation of scores for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG is likely to be done away with this year with the National Testing Agency (NTA) planning a rejig of the crucial exam for its third edition, according to top officials. The exam, which is spread over a month, is likely to be conducted in a shorter duration as the agency is contemplating a hybrid mode, including OMR sheets and a computer-based test. The move will also ensure that most of the students get a chance to take the exam in a city of their choice. "The NTA is working on the possibility of conducting papers with a large registration in the OMR mode. This will help us choose a large number of schools as test centres.
