Oyo's premiuim hotel brand 'SUNDAY' launches first international hotel

In a bid to expand its premium property portfolio overseas, SUNDAY, a luxury hotel brand owned by OYO's parent firm and SoftBank Group, has opened its first properties abroad in the UK and UAE, OYO announced on Wednesday. The initiative is a part of OYO's ongoing efforts to strengthen its premium property portfolio across the globe, the company stated. SUNDAY Lansbury Heritage near London's iconic business district Canary Wharf will now be operated by Oravel. The 35-room property is a restored Grade II listed building with its history dating back to 1628 when the East India Company built its first chapel and almshouses on the site. SUNDAY in Dubai has been launched with the opening of SUNDAY Holiday International Hotel. The premium brand of properties was originally launched in May 2023 in India by the joint venture between the Softbank and Oravel Stays. HAI mulls incentives for hotel operators to adopt sustainable practices

Hotel Association of India is considering asking government to provide incentives to small hotel operators for adopting sustainability practices, according to its Secretary General MP Bezbaruah. While big luxury and five star operators are leading from the front on adopting sustainability practices, the smaller members of Hotel Association of India (HAI) are lagging behind due to cost issues of taking up the initiatives, he told PTI. "We have the big five star and luxury hotels with records which are exemplary and have been leading the world but we want it to flow down the line to get the smaller members (join the sustainability drive)," Bezbaruah said. HAI has tried to encourage its members and non-members into globally accepted certification programmes of sustainability, he said, however adding,"Some of these practices can be costly and may not be cost effective for many smaller hotels." Espire Hospitality plans to have 20 hotels by FY25 with Rs 560 cr capex

Espire Hospitality Group is planning to have 20 operational properties by 2024-25, with a capex of Rs 560 crore under its brands - Zana, Country Inn Express and Country Inn Premier, a top company executive said on Saturday. "Currently, we have 10 hotels in the portfolio under the 5 star luxury boutique resort brand 'ZANA - a Luxury Escapes' and the 4 star brand 'Country Inn Hotels and Resorts', with 780 keys. In this financial year, we are adding 200 more keys (3 ZANA resorts) to reach 13 operational hotels with 980 keys," Espire Hospitality Group Chief Executive Officer Akhil Arora told PTI. The capex, through in-house funding, will also be utilised in phases for renovating, leasing and upgrading the existing hotels, he added. The hospitality group, Arora said, is exploring both green-field as well as brown-field properties in leisure destinations like Goa, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
