Schools acting as flood relief camps to be shut for next 2 days: Delhi govt

As private and government schools in flood-affected districts of the national capital are likely to function as relief camps for a few days, Delhi government on Sunday announced that all schools in those areas will remain shut for next two days.All schools (Govt., Govt. Aided & Private Recognised) in the affected districts of DoE-- East, North East, North West-A, North, Central and South East-- shall remain closed for students on July 17 and July 18," an official statement from the government said. "Wherever feasible, schools may arrange online classes. Heads of all schools situated in the above districts of DoE must inform the parents to this effect today itself," it said. Delhi govt to give financial aid of Rs 10,000 to flood-hit families

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced the Delhi government will provide a financial aid of Rs 10,000 each to the flood-affected families. Taking to Twitter, he said many poor families living along the Yamuna banks have lost their homes in the floods and some have lost all their belongings. "A financial aid of Rs 10,000 will be provided to each family affected by the floods," Kejriwal said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced the government will set up special camps for those whose Aadhaar cards and other documents were washed away in the floods. He made the announcement during a visit to a relief camp in north Delhi's Mori Gate. "The government will set up special camps for those whose Aadhaar cards and other key documents were washed away in the flood. Days of torrential rain in S Korea leave 26 dead in landslides, floods

Days of heavy rain in South Korea have left at least 26 people dead and 10 others missing in landslides, floods and other incidents, the government said Saturday. The 26 fatalities were reported on Friday and Saturday, all in the central and southeastern regions, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said in a report. An earlier ministry report on Saturday morning said five people died after landslides caused by torrential downpours buried their houses. Two others also died in landslide-related incidents. But the latest ministry report didn't explain the cause of deaths for the additional fatalities. PM Modi speaks to LG on steps taken to deal with flood situation in Delhi

Immediately after returning to Delhi from abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Lt Governor V K Saxena to enquire about the progress made in dealing with the flood-like situation in the national capital, officials said. Water inundated several parts of Delhi following massive rains as Yamuna flowed above the danger mark. However, the river's water level followed a downward trend on Saturday, allowing authorities to open roads and ease traffic movement as floodwaters receded from many areas. An official said, "Immediately on his arrival in Delhi, PM spoke to LG of Delhi about the status of the flood-like situation in Delhi due to Yamuna river and the progress achieved in mitigation." Water levels in Yamuna in Delhi down to 208.02 metres at 10 pm: CWC data

After breaching a 45-year record three days ago, water levels in the Yamuna in Delhi came down to 208.02 metres at 10 pm on Friday even as several key areas in the city were inundated. On Thursday, the water level had started rising after remaining stable for three hours and reached 208.66 metres by 7 pm, three metres above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. According to Central Water Commission (CWC) data, the water level stood at 208.57 metres in the early hours of Friday and fell marginally to 208.48 metres at 5 am. The water level in the Yamuna was 208.42 metres at 8 am. It went down further to 208.27 metres at 1 pm and 208.25 metres at 3 pm. At 6 pm, the reading stood at 208.17 metres and it was 208.02 metres at 10 pm, the data stated. Noida flood: 550 hectares land, over 7,200 people & 6000 animals impacted

As many as 7,210 people were impacted by the floods as overflowing Yamuna inundated around 550 hectares of low-lying land along its banks in Noida and Greater Noida on Friday, while rescue and relief measures continued in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, officials said. Of the impacted people, 3,610 have been displaced and moved to shelter homes. As many as 5,974 animals, including cattle, dogs, rabbits, ducks, roosters, and guinea pigs, have also been moved out of submerged areas to safety since Thursday, they said. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the water treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal will resume functioning by Saturday morning if the Yamuna water level recedes to 207.7 metres.
