Panic among Indian H-1B holders in US as visa fee hike hits travel plans

Widespread panic, confusion and concern gripped Indians in the US on H-1B visas on Saturday hours after US President Donald Trump's order to impose a staggering USD 1,00,000 fee on the work visas, with many cancelling their plans to travel to India. He further alleged that the central government was troubling states over their rights. Does the Centre not have the time to address the impact on southern states because of several American decisions in recent times? he asked. Sridhar Babu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar must launch diplomatic ..

Emails to top Indian IT companies including TCS, Infosys and Wipro for comments, too, did not elicit any response. "The current H-1B visa system is a scam that lets foreign workers fill American job opportunities. Hiring American workers should be the priority of all great American businesses. Now is the time to hire American," Lutnick said in a social media post this week. When contacted, Pai asserted that Indian IT companies are less dependent on these ..
