The Haryana government has decided to build memorials in villages of the state as a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland, a minister said on Friday.
In a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland, Haryana government will build memorials of the state's war heroes in their home villages. According to Development and Panchayats Minister, O P Dhankar, the memorials will be a source of inspiration for the youth. "Memorials would be constructed of the recipients of Param Vir Chakra, Mahavir Chakra and Vir Chakra and those who were awarded with the Victoria Cross in first and second World Wars," Dhankar said in a statement today. The proposal has been approved by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, he added. Stressing that Haryana was famous for its heroic saga the world over, the minister said memorials would be built in the home village of the martyrs. "The heroic saga and the biography of the brave soldier would also be inscribed on the memorial," he said. In perhaps the first project of its kind in the country, a 'gaushala' here is offering a 'cow safari' in which people on bullock carts can ride past the animals. The maintenance and development of Hingaunia Gaushala, once run by the Rajasthan government, was handed over to Akshaypatra Foundation in 2016 after thousands of cows died there due to alleged mismanagement. Work on the project spread over 12 acres is on and the safari will be launched on Janmashtami, the foundation said. The safari will run on selected paths through a natural landscape with water bodies being created under the project. Initially three bullock carts will be made available for the safari, programme coordinator Radha Priya Das told PTI. The descriptions of different breeds of cows will be displayed on trees along the safari route. The premises of the world famous 13th century Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha's Puri district was inundated with water following heavy rainfall in the district, an ASI official said. Puri district received 127 mm of rainfall today, an official said. "We are taking all steps to drain out water from the Sun temple premises. Motor pumps have been pressed into service to evacuate water from the premises," said Hemsagar Abhay Naik, the superintending archaeologist of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Bhubaneswar. Water logging is a constant problem for the monument, an UNESCO world heritage site, Naik said. "For better and upgraded drainage system, we have prepared a plan and sent it for approval of the Director General of ASI," he said. Tourists visiting the Sun Temple at Konark faced difficulties due to the water logging. Around 4,000 tourists visit the world famous temple every day, ASI sources said.
