World's tiniest surviving baby born in California

A California hospital on Wednesday disclosed the birth of the world's smallest baby ever to survive, weighing a mere 245 grams (8.6 ounces) -- the same as a large apple -- when she was born. The girl, nicknamed Saybie by hospital staff, was born 23 weeks and three days into her mother's pregnancy at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Newborns in San Diego. The father was told by doctors that he would have about an hour with his daughter before she passed away. "But that hour turned into two hours which turned into a day, which turned into a week," the mother said in a video released by the hospital. Doctors said Saybie was delivered via emergency cesarean section in December at 23 weeks and three days gestation in the womb after severe pregnancy complications that put her mother's life at risk. The Union Home Ministry has begun the process of nominations for Padma awards to recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements and service in various disciplines. In a statement, the ministry said online nominations for recommendations for the Padma awards to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2020 have started from May 1. The last date for nominations is September 15. The nominations or recommendations for the Padma awards will be received online only on the Padma portal (www.padmaawards.gov.in). Thousands thronged Vienna's landmark cathedral Wednesday to mourn Formula One legend and Austrian national hero Niki Lauda at a ceremony to be attended by a host of F1 stars including world champion Lewis Hamilton. The casket arrived at St. Stephen's Cathedral in the city's historic centre with a police motorcade. Thousands, including Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, are expected to throng Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral Wednesday to mourn the giant of the sport, Niki Lauda, who died on May 20 at the age of 70. The body of the three-time world champion, clad in a race suit, will be laid out in a closed casket topped with his race helmet in the centre of the cathedral from 08:00 to 12:00 local time (06:00 GMT to 10:00 GMT) followed by a public mass and a private funeral.
