A bust of B R Ambedkar was found partially damaged in Charkadharpur town of Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a police officer said on Sunday. The vandalised bust was discovered by some people at the Railway School Ground in Chakradharpur on Saturday night following which they informed police, the official said. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anand Mohan Singh said a group of miscreants partially damaged a portion of the face of the bust. The incident, on the eve of B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, caused anger among people. But they were pacified by the SDPO who assured action against the culprits, police said.
Indian Air Force Sunday organised a half marathon here to commemorate accomplishments and mark the centenary celebrations of its late Marshal Arjan Singh. South African police said on Sunday they had found 167 rhino horns believed to be destined for Asia and nabbed two suspects in a sting operation in the North West province. The two were arrested on Saturday following a tip off that there was a car transporting rhino horns. It is one of the biggest hauls of rhino horns in the country, according to an elite police unit that investigates specialised types of crime known as the Hawks. "We arrested them on Saturday in the Hartbeespoort dam area. They were driving in a vehicle and they were intercepted," Hawks spokesman brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi told AFP. A 75-year old supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi died after he was allegedly attacked by a suspected supporter of the DMK-Congress alliance following a wordy duel near here, police said Sunday. Police said they arrested Gopinath who got into an argument with the elderly man while the latter was seeking votes for the AIADMK-BJP alliance at Orthanadu late Saturday. In a fit of rage, Gopinath attacked Govindarajan who was also a fan of AIADMK founder late M G Ramachandran. The man collapsed and died on the spot, police said. A dog owner in Britain is being investigated for manslaughter after her pet mauled to death a 10-year-old boy at an English vacation park. Police said Sunday the woman has been released but is under investigation for manslaughter and having a dog dangerously out of control. She has not been identified or charged. The boy was killed Saturday morning by what police said was a "bulldog-type breed." The animal is being held at a kennel while the investigation proceeds. A zoo in southern China says the only known female member of one of the world's rarest turtle species has died. The animal was one of four Yangtze giant softshell turtles known to be remaining in the world. The Suzhou zoo, where the female turtle lived, also houses a male Yangtze giant softshell turtle. The other two live in Vietnam, but their genders are unknown. Suzhou authorities said Sunday that the female turtle died Saturday afternoon. The city government said in a statement that experts have already used technology to collect the turtle's ovarian tissue for future research. The state-run People's Daily reported that the turtle was over 90 years old and had undergone a fifth attempt at artificial insemination shortly before she died.
