Beijing's World Humanoid Robot Games move beyond record-breaking sprints to test whether machines can autonomously handle cables, warehouses and other real-world tasks
Chinese humanoid robots broke records set by humans, including beating Usain Bolt's 100-meter sprint world record, on the opening day of the Olympics-like World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. More than 2,000 humanoid robots were participating in the event, the organizer said. The five-day games, now in its second year, are a spectacle demonstrating China's rapid progress in advanced robotics as the technology race with the U.S. heats up, with 51 events and more than 1,000 competitions taking place including running, table tennis and soccer. The games, which are taking place in the National Speed Skating Oval built for the 2022 Winter Olympics, opened the same week as Beijing held the 2026 World Robot Conference, where companies showcased around 3,000 products, including humanoid robots. China makes the majority of the world's humanoid robots. The U.S. has stepped up scrutiny of robots from the country. Last month, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced a ban on imp

The Federal Communications Commission in the US said on Tuesday it would ban the import of foreign-made humanoid robots in a move that targets China, arguing they pose a national security risk. The decision could strain bilateral relations as the technology race between the two world leaders advances. China makes substantially more humanoid robots than the US and other competitors, and analysts estimate that Chinese humanoid robots' global market share has reached roughly 85 per cent. The FCC's ban includes new imports of humanoid robots, quadrupeds -- often referred to as four-legged robot dogs -- as well as foreign-made power inverters. In making the decision, the FCC said these advanced robots produced in foreign countries pose supply chain vulnerabilities to the US as well as cybersecurity and national security risks. FCC chairperson Brendan Carr said in a statement that the move was to "secure America's critical supply chains." The United States has been taking steps to keep

American electric carmaker Tesla will bring its humanoid robot, Optimus to India at the right time, a senior company official said on Wednesday. The company will also look at bringing its vertically integrated energy solution business to the country at an appropriate time, Tesla chief for APAC region Isabel Fan told reporters here. She said Tesla will start volume production of Optimus later this year in the US. "Humanoid robots will be big part of our life in the future, " Fan said. Humanoid robots would have several uses, including as a companion or to execute "dangerous task" that a human would not prefer to do, besides providing home medical requirement support, she noted. "I have a commitment when it (time) comes right on the things (as) you have seen (in) other markets, we want to bring to India. That's the goal," Fan said referring to the company's humanoid robot. With the help of robots human lives will be much easier, she added. "This is a good option for humans to have a
