WHO to set up mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad: IT Minister KT Rama Rao

The World Health Organisation will be setting up mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccine hub in Telangana, Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao said on Tuesday here. mRNA is becoming a promising technology to address a growing number of infectious diseases. Speaking to reporters on various steps being taken by the state government to promote the life sciences sector, Rama Rao said Telangana has a target of making the industry worth USD 100 billion from USD 50 billion in 2021 and the workforce from the existing four lakh to eight lakh in the next five years. "In fact, this will be another big announcement. WHO is going to set up its mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad," he said refusing to provide details. In an interview to a TV channel in Davos in January, KTR said the WHO was keen to set up the hub in Hyderabad and hopefully it will happen soon. Hoax bomb call at Google office in Pune; caller held in Hyderabad

Google company's office in Maharashtra's Pune city was briefly put on alert after it received a call about a bomb in the premises which later turned out to be a hoax, police said on Monday. A man, who allegedly made the call in an inebriated state, has been traced to Hyderabad and apprehended from there, they said. "The office, located on the 11th floor of a multi-storey commercial building in Pune's Mundhwa area, received a call late Sunday night that a bomb was kept in the office premises," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Vikrant Deshmukh said. After being alerted, Pune police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad reached the spot and carried out extensive searches, he said. "The call later turned out to be a hoax. The caller has been traced to Hyderabad and apprehended. He allegedly made the call in an inebriated condition," the official said. Further investigation is on into the incident, he added.

Earthquake of 3.1 magnitude with depth of 5 kms hits Telangana's Nizamabad

An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 on the Richter scale struck 120 km Northwest of Nizamabad on Sunday, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).The quake occured in the state at a depth of 5 kilometres, at a latitude of 19.43 and a longitude of 77.27 at around 8:12 am on Sunday."Earthquake of Magnitude:3.1, Occurred on 05-02-2023, 08:12:47 IST, Lat: 19.43 & Long: 77.27, Depth: 5 Km, Location: 120km NW of Nizamabad, Telangana," NCS said in a tweet.No loss of life or damage to property has been reported yet.Earlier on January 24, strong tremors were felt in parts of Delhi and National Capital area Tuesday.The quake lasted for at least 15 seconds, with people seen rushing out of their homes and offices.According to the National Centre of Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was centred in Nepal.

PM Modi to visit Hyderabad on Jan 19 to launch various railway projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be initiating various Railway projects worth Rs 2,400 crore in Telangana besides flagging off a Vande Bharat Express train between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, a press release from BJP said here on Monday. In view of Modi's visit to the state, BJP State President and Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar and OBC Morcha National President and Rajya Sabha member K Laxman visited the Secunderabad Railway Station and held a meeting with South Central Railway officials, it said. The PM will lay the foundation stone for modernisation of the Secunderabad Railway Station costing around Rs 700 crore and remotely launch the works of the construction of Periodical Overhauling (POH) workshop at Kazipet, it said. Similarly, the SecunderabadMahbubnagar doubling works costing Rs 1,231 crore will also be initiated, the release said.
