Bangladesh rejects India's allegation over Hindu community leader's death

Bangladesh has rejected New Delhi's charge that the recent killing of a Hindu leader was part of a pattern of systematic persecution of minorities in that country. Body of Hindu community leader Bhabesh Chandra Roy, 58, a resident of Basudebpur village of Dinajpur district in north Bangladesh, was recovered on Thursday night. His son has claimed Roy was allegedly abducted from his home in the village, about 330 kilometres northwest of Dhaka, and beaten to death. It is unfortunate that the death of Mr Bhabesh Chandra Roy has been described as part of a 'pattern of systematic persecution' of Hindu minorities under the interim government, interim government chief Muhammad Yunus' press secretary Shafiqul Alam told the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) news agency late Monday. Alam, who is currently accompanying Yunus to an international conference in Qatar, said Bangladesh is not a country where one would find government-sponsored systematic discrimination against ...

Govt move to end B'desh transshipment facility shows focus on NE: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Centre's decision to withdraw the transshipment facility to Bangladesh for exports to various countries reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's priority to safeguard the security of the North East region. India ends trans-shipment facility for Bangladesh's third-country exports

The government has terminated the trans-shipment facility that allowed export cargo from Bangladesh to third countries using Indian land customs stations en route to ports and airports, according to a government circular. Indian exporters, mainly from the apparel sector, had earlier urged the government to withdraw this facility to the neighbouring country. The facility had enabled smooth trade flows for Bangladesh's exports to countries like Bhutan, Nepal, and Myanmar. It was provided by India to Bangladesh in June 2020. "It has been decided to rescind... circular...dated June 29, 2020, as amended with immediate effect. Cargo already entered into India may be allowed to exit the Indian territory as per the procedure given in that circular," the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs' circular, dated April 8, said. Bangladesh Army denies media report on 'emergency meeting' of generals

The Bangladesh Army Tuesday dismissed a report published by an Indian media outlet, saying the article claiming an emergency meeting of top army brass was based on "false and fabricated" information. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladesh Army, said the report, titled 'Bangladesh Army Holds Emergency Meeting Amid Possibility of Coup Against Chief Adviser Mohammad Yunus,' is a "glaring example of journalistic malpractice." The ISPR termed it a misleading article based on fabricated information regarding a routine meeting of the Bangladesh Army. The article "lacks credible sources or any verifiable evidence", it said.
