India-Pak tensions: Pakistan says it has right to seek UNSC meeting

Pakistan on Friday said it has a right to seek a meeting of the United Nations Security Council when appropriate as tensions heightened with India after the Pahalgam terror attack. We see that all of this that is happening is in the context, in the backdrop of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad told a press conference here. Ahmad was responding to a question on whether Pakistan is planning to ask for a meeting of the Security Council in the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people on April 22. Pakistan is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and will preside over the 15-nation UN body in July. Here it is evident that there was an incident but now what has evolved in terms of the situation which is a real threat to regional and international peace and security, and we believe that the

Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif's YouTube channel blocked in India over security

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's YouTube channel was blocked in India on Friday amid ongoing tension between the two countries following the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. "The content is currently unavailable in this country because of an order from the government related to national security or public order. For more details about government removal requests, please visit the Google Transparency Report," read a message on the blocked channel. The government had earlier this week blocked 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly disseminating "false, provocative and communally sensitive content" about India and has also strongly objected to the BBC's reportage on the Pahalgam attack. The government's move follows recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in the upper reaches of the Kashmir resort town in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. Besides, the Ministry of External Affairs will

Indian farmers complete wheat harvest near Pak border amid tensions

Indian farmers have completed wheat harvesting in areas adjoining the Pakistan border in the key growing states of Punjab and Rajasthan, government officials said on Thursday. "Wheat crop has been harvested by now," Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said at a press conference when asked about the status of harvesting near the India-Pakistan border, which spans approximately 3,310 kilometres across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. While no separate data on the total wheat quantity harvested from border areas is available, Agriculture Commissioner Praveen Kumar Singh noted that Punjab has a significant area under wheat cultivation near the border compared to other states. "Farmers have harvested the crop. The yield is better this time," Singh told PTI. In Rajasthan, wheat cultivation primarily occurs in the Ganganagar district near the border, along with Hanumangarh and Jaisalmer. A Rajasthan government official confirmed that "farmers have fully harvested their ...

"My mother's an Indian and she is not being allowed to accompany us to Pakistan," bawled teenage Sarita, not knowing when she could see her in person. Over 450 Indians return home from Pak via Wagah after visa cancellations

More than 450 Indians have left Pakistan for their home via the Wagah border over the last three days after they were forced to cut short their visits because of cancellation of visas in the wake of developments following the Pahalgam terror attack. Among those who left on Saturday were 23 Indians, who were part of a broadcast company of PSL (Pakistan Super League) 2025, officials said here. The actual number of Indians crossing over on Saturday will be known later. Around 300 Indians returned home on Friday and 100-odd on Thursday via the same route, the officials added. At the same time, 200 Pakistani nationals have returned home from India, they said. Anurag Thakur warns Pakistan of strong retaliation after Pahalgam attack

BJP MP Anurag Thakur slammed Pakistan on Saturday for aiding and abetting terrorism, while asserting that India will take decisive action in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and there will be no "pardon" this time. Pakistan is panick-stricken after India's retaliatory actions and hurling empty threats, "but we will not cow down", the member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur told Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bilaspur town. Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed and several injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday afternoon, following which security has been beefed up across the valley, especially at vital tourist spots. Reacting to the threatening remarks of Pakistan People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on India's decision to suspend the Indus Waters treaty, Thakur said India is undeterred and will not chan

5K Pakistanis in M'rashtra, 1K on short-term visas told to leave: Minister

Maharashtra minister Yogesh Kadam on Saturday said 5,000 Pakistani nationals are residing in the state, including 1000 on short term visas who have been asked to leave the country as per the Centre's directives. Some are residing in India since the last 8-10 years, some are married and some are those who have surrendered their Pakistani passport and applied for Indian citizenship, he said. Pahalgam attack: Omar Abdullah questions Pak's offer of neutral probe

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday questioned Pakistan's offer to join any "neutral and transparent" probe into the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people on April 22. "The recent tragedy in Pahalgam is yet another example of this perpetual blame game, which must come to a grinding halt. Continuing with its role as a responsible country, Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent and credible investigation," Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday. "First they (Pakistan) did not accept that something happened in Pahalgam. Then they even said it was done by India. They were the ones who first accused us, so it's difficult to say anything about them," Abdullah told reporters here. Asked about Sharif's remarks, Abdullah said, "I do not want to comment much on their (Pakistani leaders) statements. I regret the incident, which should not have happened." India informs Pak of its decision to keep Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance

India informs Pakistan of its decision to keep Indus Water Treaty in abeyance with immediate effect, saying Pakistan has breached conditions of the treaty. The decision was detailed in a letter from Debashree Mukherjee, India's Secretary of Water Resources, to her Pakistani counterpart, Syed Ali Murtaza. Sustained cross-border terrorism by Pakistan targeting Jammu and Kashmir impedes India's rights under the Indus Water Treaty, the letter said. What we have seen instead is sustained cross-border terrorism by Pakistan, the letter stated, noting that these actions have created security uncertainties that impede India's ability to fully utilise its treaty rights. India's decision to suspend the decades-old treaty follows the killing of 26 people, mostly tourists, in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday. The Indus Waters Treaty, brokered by the World Bank, has governed the use of the Indus river and its tributaries between India and Pakistan since 1960.
