Future terror acts to be treated as acts of war against India: Govt sources

Any future act of terror in India will be considered an "act of war" against the country and will be responded to accordingly, top government sources said on Saturday. With this decision, the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to draw red lines against terror incidents and makes clear its intention to firmly respond to the perpetrators and conspirators, in what is seen as a message to Pakistan -- a country linked to various terrorist groups involved in targeting Indians. The decision comes amid an intensifying conflict with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which had left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead.

Pak drone attacks foiled in Punjab; three of family injured in Ferozepur

Security forces said multiple attacks by Pakistani drones in Punjab's Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Amritsar districts were thwarted on Friday evening as local authorities clamped a blackout upon hearing explosions. Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said a crashing projectile from the Pakistani drone destroyed by the air defense system landed at a house in Village Khai Pheme Ke, setting the structure and a car on fire. Three people -- Lakhwinder Singh, his wife Sukhwinder Kaur and his brother Monu Singh -- were injured and they were rushed to a private hospital, police said, adding that Lakhwinder's condition was stated to be critical. Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said teams were dispatched to the village where the house was damaged and three people were injured. Centre urges states to grant emergency buying powers to civil defence teams

In view of an ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan, the Centre has asked all states to give emergency procurement power to the heads of the civil defence authorities so that they can make the required purchases in case of an emergency situation. In a communication to the chief secretaries of all states and Union territories, Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards Vivek Srivastava said preparing the civil administration and adopting precautionary measures against hostile attacks in the states and Union territories are governed by the Civil Defence Act and Rules, 1968.
