India's coffee exports rise 125% to $1.8 billion over 11 years: Govt data

The country's coffee exports have jumped about 125 per cent to USD 1.8 billion in the last 11 years on account of a series of measures taken by the Coffee Board of India, according to the central government data. The exports stood at over USD 800 million in 2014-15. It was USD 1.28 billion in 2023-24 and USD 1.14 billion in 2022-23, the data showed. Europe remains the top destination for the country's coffee exports. The major countries which import the commodity from India include Italy, Germany, Belgium, Middle East nations, Korea, and Japan. The major initiatives taken by the Coffee Board of India to push the exports include online issuance with digital signature of registration-cum-membership certificate (RCMC), export permit, certificate of origin, regular interaction with the exporters to discuss bottlenecks and addressing those issues, and providing regular global market information and market intelligence. The other export promotion steps included transit/freight assistance

Indian coffee exports surge 13.35% to 125,000 tonnes in Jan-Mar, shows data

Coffee shipments from India rose 13.35 per cent to 1,25,631 tonnes during January-March period of this year on higher demand for Robusta coffee, according to the official data. The country had exported 1,10,830 tonnes of coffee in the same period in 2023. India, Asia's third-largest producer and exporter, grows Arabica and Robusta varieties of coffee. Arabica coffee bean has lesser caffeine content than the Robusta. Arabica has a sweet and smoother taste, while the Robusta is generally more bitter and harsher on the taste buds. According to the Coffee Board of India's latest data, export of Robusta coffee bean rose by 18 per cent to 69,637 tonnes in the first quarter of the 2024 calendar year from 59,050 tonnes in the year-ago period. However, the shipment of Arabica coffee bean declined to 13,419 tonnes from 15,468 tonnes in the said period. Coffee exports rise 17% in 2017, may not be as good in 2018

Coffee exports from India (January to December) rose by around 17 per cent in value terms to $958.80 million and eight per cent in quantity terms to 0.38 million tonnes. Re-exports saw a drop in 2017, while interestingly the Indian the domestic coffee's content in the instant coffee almost doubled in 2017. Exporters have said, 2018 may not be as good like 2017, due to price and projected drop in the crop.According to Coffee Board's data total exports rose to $958.80 million in 2017 from $818.65 million in 2016. Re-exports however dropped to 64,888 MT in 2017 from 79,034 MT in 2016.India is Asia's third-largest producer and exporter of coffee. The major markets include Italy, Germany and Russia. India ships both Robusta and Arabica varieties, besides instant coffee.Of the total exports, India exported 77770 tonnes to Italy, 41,064 tonnes to Germany and 29,531 tonnes to Russia during the year.Ramesh Rajah, President, Coffee Exporters Association said that the increase in coffee exports .
