Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory for IPL match, heavy rain woes

Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued multiple traffic advisories in view of the IPL match at Arun Jaitley Stadium and disruptions caused by waterlogging due to heavy rains in parts of the city. According to the advisory, the traffic movement is expected to be affected around Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium from 5:30 pm to midnight on May 25 due to the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. The affected stretches include Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and Asaf Ali Road. Buses and heavy vehicles will not be allowed from Daryaganj to Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road. The commuters going towards the stadium have been advised to use public transport to avoid congestion, the advisory said. People betting, gambling in name of IPL via online apps: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Friday said people were betting and gambling in the garb of Indian Premier League and sought the Centre's response on a PIL seeking to regulate betting applications. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh issued notice to the Centre on a plea filed by K A Paul, who claimed many children had died suicide after using online betting and gambling applications. The petitioner alleged several online influencers, actors and cricketers were promoting such online apps, luring children in the process. Paul said in case of cigarettes, packs had pictures indicating the ill-effects of smoking, but in case of betting apps, no such caution was publicised and even former Indian team cricketers promoted the applications during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). JioStar, the joint venture created after the merger of the media business of Reliance and the India business of global media giant Walt Disney, on Friday reported revenues of Rs 10,006 crore with pre-tax earnings of Rs 774 crore. JioHotstar, which was launched after the merger of two leading OTT platforms JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar on February 14, 2025, crossed 100 million paid user milestone within five weeks, according to earnings statement from Realiance Industries.
